No, not Spiderman.

Gotta show some love to Phil Parker. He has had some really good defenses without putting us in poor situations with unnecessary blitzing. He has done this with basically only one huge rated recruit (AJE). All of our other recruits have pretty much been mid to high 3 star to lower.

Think about this for a second....points allowed this year.

Those are winning numbers in this day and age of CFB. We just need our offense to kick it up a smidge!

Iowa’s defense has not been an issue. Ranked #22 this season for total points allowed.
As for “smidge” on the offense side...

Agreed! (Up until the "smidge" part;)

I always cringe when the "Iowa needs to blitz more" idiots come out of the woodwork. Seems like blitzing works like 1/4th the time and we get hosed usually. I don't know why but it seems this year we gave up more 3 and longs than others years. Maybe it's just my imagination.

Anyways, I think PP did and does a great job with the talent he has to work with, development is a huge factor for Iowa to be successful. Also think how some of the scores might be just a little lower if the D wasn't gassed from being on the field so much.

I’d like to see how he does in the bowl game. He’s been excellent during the season but his defenses have gotten gashed in the bowls.

Given our terrible punting and an astounding number of 3 and outs and lack of production from the offense for most of the year, what they did on defense was nothing short of remarkable. I know our style frustrates some here, myself included at times, but there is no doubting that it works and the overall results back that up.

I think Phil is a good coach. BUT Norm was better at in game adjustments in my opinion. If we had trouble in the first half, Norm always got things fixed at halftime.

Phil’s a pretty decent DC. His “style” of defense is not what I prefer, but it has been successful and matches Iowa’s personnel.
