Just reading Sid Hartman's book and he claims the Evy turned down a Packer's offer, leading to the hiring of Vince Lombardi. Fascinating.

Could have been the ‘Evasevski (sp) Trophy’ or jusy Evy Trophy .

Kinda like in 1980 when Coach K was deciding between Duke and Iowa State.
Just think. We never would have heard of Coach K had he chosen to coach in that dump in central Iowa. He probably would have lasted 2 or 3 years in that cesspool.

Evy wanted stay at Iowa as the HC and be the AD too. Who knows? If that happened we just might have become like Nebby was in the 60s and 70s.

Another historical coaching what-might-have-been: Legendary Grambling State coach Eddie Robinson was quietly offered the Iowa job during the search that ended with Hayden Fry getting the position.

Lombardi died and they named the SB trophy after him. George Halas' name should be on the SB trophy as Father of the NFL but VL had better timing.

In related historical news...Iowa QB, Randy Duncan, was the first pick of the 1959 draft by the Green Bay Packers, but opted to play in Canada. I believe he was VL's first pick as this was his first year with the Packers.

I read about that in a book about Lombardi's first season and how he turned the franchise around.

Is it the book by Sid Hartman and Patrick Reusse? boy what a couple of insufferable egos.
