Let's be honest, nobody likes paper straws. They begin to deteriorate immediately and the glue clearly dissolves into the beverage. This study really should come as no surprise to anyone. Is there anyone out there who genuinely gets excited when they see a paper straw over plastic? Does anyone else laugh when they see a paper/cardboard straw that comes in a non-recyclable plastic baggie? One of the worst "innovations" in history.

Have not encountered paper straws. Not much of a consumer. I wonder if I really need straws of any kind in my life.

Better go rake the forests and clean these up.

Actually in all seriousness this is the first topic you ever posted worth a damn. **** paper straws. They do suck. Our local Starbucks locations have started to use the new really thin “eco friendly” plastic ones. Much better. (FWIW I don’t use them. But I hate when places jam them in your to go drinks)

I knew if there was a single topic that could unite us all across our diverse opinions/beliefs it would be a shared hatred of paper straws. I do like the idea of some of the eco/bio plastic straws out there these days. Bio plastics have all sorts of great application potential down the road as well.

The issue with paper straws is something many have experienced firsthand. They do tend to deteriorate quickly and can affect the beverage's taste. It's disappointing when something deemed "eco-friendly" falls short of expectations.
Regarding the study's findings, it's crucial to consider the environmental impact of any alternative to plastic. While paper straws were intended to reduce plastic waste, if they contain potentially toxic chemicals, it defeats the purpose.
In situations like this, it's worth exploring more sustainable options. Custom reclosable bags, as featured on interplas.com, might be a better choice for packaging. They offer durability and reusability, aligning with eco-conscious efforts without compromising on functionality.
