Been several times. I think Bogart's in Soulard is slightly better (Bogart's pit guys all used to work at Pappy's).

Both places are awesome if you like true competition BBQ.
You can skip the long line at Pappy's -- call in your order, when you get there, bypass the line, flag down a waitress and tell her you have a to-go order. Tip her big, and you just saved yourself an hour wait.
Yes, get there early and there will be little wait. Bogarts is a bit quicker and just a mile or so away. It's run by one of the guys that started Pappys up. Try Blue City Deli when you get a chance as well.
