At this point, I think it's clear the Payton is struggling this year. He's had a couple of good games, played decently against Northwestern and Michigan, but really fell apart against Utah St and Iowa St. This is supposed to be the leader of the team and right now, he has the 3rd best efficiency rating and is shooting 31% from 3 (27% against top 100 teams). I hope he can turn it around because he might be hurting his draft stock if his season keeps going this way.

He can't shoot unless his feet are set and that's why he won't play in the league. He was told he needed to work on it and he's keeps trying to shoot on the run, he's terrible at it. Give him a standstill jumper and he's much better than average. The wrist is clearly a problem too.

Payton’s good at converting off balance shots near the bucket and rebounding. He needs to concentrate on those two things, especially rebounding, because that’s what this team needs.

If he’s healthy, his 3 shot will come around. He’s always been extremely streaky.

It's a typical Iowa team. Awful on defense, awful on the glass. When the shots don't go down they will lose because they give up so many points. It's no surprise apathy for men's hoops is at a 20 year peak. The women sell out Carver, the men are not even close. I wonder why......?

I had a similar injury and it didn’t heal for two years. Doctors have probably advised him it probably can’t worse. I bet he’ll get surgery in the summer.

"Might". The only thing he had in his bag was some of those crazy three's he throws in, and thats so hit and miss with him. Other then that, theres nothing about his game that says, "this guys a pro".

It’s about the jimmy and joes, not the X’s and O’s. ISU has dogs that hit clutch 3’s from 5 feet behind the arc. Our senior “shooter” can’t buy a bucket right now. If your shot isn’t falling, pump fake and go to the basket. He’s still 6’7”. There are other options, like pass the ball quickly to another teammate for an open look rather than jacking up some off balance, awkward shot.

Payton will make hundreds of thousands each year overseas.

If i had the ability, I'd so the same. Easy choice.

Exactly. He needs to stop shooting bad off balance shots. He’s forcing shots early in the shot clock when he can get the same shot at any point. If he starts shooting balanced squared up threes, he will be a killer.

I’m not sure about killer, but would definitely improve the team’s efficiency and his shot percentage.

People always bring up that a 3 point shooter only needs to make 33% of their 3s to be equal to 50% of 2 pointers. What that stat doesn’t take into consideration is how many more possessions you give your opponent on missed 3s. When Payton goes 3/10 he is giving the other team 7 more opportunities to get the ball and score. He needs to chill out on the volume as well.
