pbp-Midlands Session 1

Alex Marinelli has a lot more volume of shots. Like most aggressive wrestlers (to include the Brands) he is going to get scored on every once in awhile. It's a learning process but I love his aggressiveness...shot until the end. Young has progressed even from his last tourney. Learning how to close out close matches. Glass isn't a world beater but he as beat Connor Flynn quite a bit ;) Very nice win for Young.

You didn't say he was but when you asked the question you refused to believe anyone who said he isn't.

Your words not mine. I simply stated young has a clearer body of work. "My refusal" is on you because you made it up. Btw I think marinelli is better and I'm well aware of how things go in the room.

So let me get this straight. Wilcke gives up the losing point on a stalling, then burns 35 seconds before attempting a shot? Good grief...

Cant find anything to bitch about other than people who donate their time to help put on this tournament? All the bitchers need to step up and see how they would do.

If you are going to volunteer your time...do it right. Sorry I have seen more scoring mistakes, cameras just sitting there and not moving with the action, stops in action because of said scoring mistakes than in your average high school tourney. This is one of the premier in season college tourneys...shouldn't be that many F-ups. BTW...I'm betting many of us have volunteered our time at tournaments across Iowa and the country.

Ian Miller agrees with this

Wilcke competes well but drops 5-4 dec to the #2 seed. Game but just too damn small.

You think he lost that match for being small? He was no smaller than the other guy. He might actually have been bigger. He's just not where he needs to be right now. I think he will eventually make the podium for us but has been called upon before his time. Just needs to keep working hard.

Agree 100% with Chief. You volunteer to do a job, do it right. When you're a scorekeeper, it's not social hour during the matches. Pay attention to the match and the official. This is D1 wrestling. Conference and NCAA seeds are on the line.

No, I don't think he necessarily lost the match because he is small, but facts are facts. His opponent is a full-sized 197. If Brooks wasn't starting for the Hawks, Wilcke would be at 184. He looks like a 184lber. One of the reasons Nathan Burak did so well was how big and strong he was. He was a huuuge 197. Wilcke's technique seems to have improved, but I fully expect him to start at 184 next year.

Did you follow their weights the week prior to this? What size jeans does each guy wear? Chest size?

Spooner has all authority on size from the eye ball test.

You lecturing me about Wilcke's weight is LOL-worthy.

I agree that he will probably be a solid to good 184 pounder for us next year. But you said he's "too small" when he wasn't any smaller than his opponent in this case. Not every opponent of his is a full sized 197 pounder and the Wabash kid is a good example.

Keep the shirt on Marinelli and Young. You get 4 years of much better wrestlers than you have with them right now.

Just my opinion, but Marinelli just keeps coming and his initial shots are pretty solid. He needs to polish his finish.
Young is just simply as tough as they come.
Right now they simply need to learn to wrestle at a higher level.

Give them each a shirt to learn and then sit back and enjoy.

Like I said, just my opinion.

Blame the tournament organizers for this stuff. If someone volunteers and they should be manning the hospitality room but gets put on a mat instead, that's not their fault.

"Lecturing"? Really? Nah dog, not me. Just making observations, same as you. Just like I believe AM is a "small" 165, so do I believe Wilcke is small framed for 197. That's all, class dismissed. o_O

No way was Wilcke bigger. The other guy was built like Hollaway. Go Hawks!!!

We both believe that these guys are small framed for their weight. No disagreement there. But when the other guy is in the same boat, how can slight sized be blamed for the loss?

Hardly. But you sure do seem to have a beef with someone who has a different opinion that yourself. Posting something first doesn't make someone correct.

Different opinions are part of life. That's fine. I have "beef" with wannabe know it all blow hards that are posting on people's size that is unprovable and something that can't be anything other than opinion.
