pbp-Midlands Session 1

No way was Wilcke bigger. The other guy was built like Hollaway. Go Hawks!!!

Huh? May want to watch again. They are about the same height and Wilcke is decidedly bigger through the thighs and lower body. Lefever might be a bit bigger in the upper body but it's close. FYI: Lefever is a senior going for his 4th D-3 title. His first 3 have come at 184. He has a win over #8 Studebaker from Nebraska already this year. Not a bad loss but a match that was winnable.

Not a terrible loss for wilcke. I'm a huge hawkeye fan but I wrestled for Wabash. Great to see lefever do well, but he has always done well; has beaten a couple D1 AAs. Probably shouldn't be in D3 (like a lot of Wartburg wrestlers), as he going for his 4th national title this year. But he never won a state title in high school (Indiana). He is also a little undersized for 197, and has been at 184 the last 3 years

Omahahawk and seed correctly. To b eligible for a 6th year an athlete must miss at least 2 seasons due to injury

It isn't "at least two." Not two full seasons, anyway. Clark has little or no change either way.

I've been out of the loop but I thought the word about Clark was that his injury holdout during SDSU was precautionary. Does he not have much of a shot to wrestle this year at all now?

while we have time to spare - I thought PU Morrissey looked huge (3 inches taller and about 8 pounds heavier compared to Meyer). But we all know the camera adds 10 pounds

Exactly why it makes no sense to shirt them both. Either would be an improvement this year, and yes 4-5 points could be the difference between a trophy or not.

I'm with ya. It also puts marinelli in a different class than Massa which greatly improves his chances to win a NC.

Lefever, Brooks and Wilcke all at 86 kg this summer at University FS. Lefever was one match away from Sammy and lost. Lefever wrestled Wilcke on the backside and beat him 12-2. This was much closer so improvement even though one was freestyle and the other folkstyle.

Iron side was somewhat surprised Clark wasn't going to midlands. Expect to see him at one of the Michigan meets.

I have seen Riley Lafever wrestle 8 - 10 times, all at the Division III Championships. He might just end up this year's Byron Tate at Midlands. He stopped at the Wrestling for Life booth at last year's Championships, so I spent some time within two feet of him and wondered how he was making 184. Seemed like a very nice kid.

BTW - useless trivia, his freshman year his two brothers also wrestled for Wabash at DIII's in Cedar Rapids.

Don't take everything they say to heart. It was never a consideration for Clark to be at Midlands. You don't go from drilling to live competition.
