Spoken like a true fan of wrestling.Well count me in the 1%. I rarely post on here but I follow some of your discussions because there are knowledgeable people on here who are big fans of wrestling in general. I'm a Penn State fan, but when it comes to wrestling I'm a bigger fan of the sport. I loved wrestling long before I even knew anything about Penn State, and for me Iowa wrestling was the clear standard. Obviously the dynamics have changed now, but I want Iowa and especially Minnesota (who I hope can overcome the JRob stuff) to rise again. I can't really root for OK states wrestling style, although they've had some guys like Dieringer who didn't fit the stereotypical OK state wrestler.
When I told my wife about Gavin flipping she said you don't seem happy about it... I'm happy to have a great wrestlers that I'll be rooting for, but at the same time I want to see great battles. I'm now hearing on here that maybe RBY feels slighted, and I read Burroughs tweets to support that, but pure speculation. If RBY goes elsewhere, then a part of me almost wants him to pull a Bubba Jenkins. He'll certainly have a huge chip on his shoulder if that really is what transpires. The storylines don't always have to be negative in the end, if they create something we can all get excited to watch.
Anyway, I'm rambling, but there will come a time when Penn State wrestling is hated by a bigger contingent of the fan base due to the success (kind of like the Patriots who I really hate but at the same time respect). Then more top kids will be motivated to go elsewhere and take down the big villain. Hopefully those kids land at Iowa and there can be some epic showdowns for the good of the sport.
That day is here.Count me in the camp that fears one team becoming so powerful that interest in the sport wanes.
As bad as I felt about Suriano going down to injury, I certainly got more excited about watching Nationals, as I thought that opened the door for a really tight team race wire-to-wire.
I'd hate to return to the days when the team champ is a foregone conclusion before the season even begins.

I didn't know about the ratings until I read this post, but I suspected that they might be pretty good. Like Penn State or hate them, Penn State can bring a lot of eyeballs to a sport when they are successful. So it was ok when it was you guys dominating but not ok when it's another team?
Ratings were high for the tournament. 3 consecutive nights in prime time and streaming as well. VJ's pin of IMar was featured on Around the Horn as the best sports moment of the weekend. Sorry, interest in and exposure for the sport is climbing.

There are some good posters there I enjoy reading comments from, true fans of the sport, but also a ton of a-holes who never get enough of pleasuring each other over how great they are and acting defensive when people don't join them. It's lonely at the top so expecting the rest of college wrestling to be buddies with them is wishful thinking. A poster from PA was on here tonight expressing thoughts that hoarding that much talent was not good for college wrestling and while 99% of their fans would never agree I think they have a point. When no other teams have a realistic shot to win interest in the sport will decline, excitement about nationals will decline and smaller programs who's life blood was getting that 1 kid here and there to make the finals or win a NC will become less important as less parity means less of that happening.

It's not a very fun race to watch when everybody at the starting line is driving a chevy impala and there's one guy in a McClaren is it?
28 years from now I vote for parityWhat is the count for National Championships?
OkState 34?
Iowa 30??
