I'm not sure today's fireworks will have gained us many believers outside the fanbase.
Still a lot to prove, which is fine with me.
Agree with wyo. And this team will have plenty reasons to play with a chip on its shoulder all year long, no matter how wins they rack up -- which is great.
Nothing to hang our laurels on yet. Won a very close game against Pitt, and survived against a Wisconsin team that shot their selves in the foot to some degree.
Not saying we had nothing to do with that. But, we did have some luck on our side today with the fumble inside the 5.
Tale of two halves. We had the field position in the first half, they had it in the second half.
We'll take it. But, we need to keep our work hats on week in and week out. The Big Ten West may not have the top heavy Ohio State. But, I think it is very deep with teams that are capable of knocking each other off about every week.

It wasn't a pretty game, and we got some breaks, but so did Wisconsin -- several controversial calls in their favor, the turnovers they got, our missed FG, etc.
One thing was clear to me -- we're every bit as good as Wisconsin. Yes, Wisconsin is a little down this year, but we're at least as good. That obviously hasn't been the case for a number of years. Good to see.

What was discounting about it? I think it was pretty darn factual. Go back and review the 2nd half possessions we had offensively. They shut us down, but our defense preserved the win.
We won, that is ultimately what matters. But, I think we better keep improving or we'll quickly find out we needed to be.
All week long there were posts over and over about how the Hawks hadn't beaten anyone. Pitt was nothing. At ISU nothing. Destroying UNT nothing.

One of the things that differentiates us from the Fuskers.
This team is 5 games into a season, 1 game into a tough Big Ten season. Go find me a coach in the country that wants the players resting on their laurels at this point.
The reward is being 5-0 at this point. Jumping up and down chanting "We are the champions", is premature at this point and does nothing good for the rest of the season.
You get your final grade at the season's end. What Pitt, ISU, NT, and Wisconsin all were, was W's. What that proves is we are 5-0 at this point. You don't get to truly say you were the real deal until you've gone through the whole season and proved it.
I'm very happy the Hawks are 5-0, but if they were to lose the next 7 games, would you still point back to the Wisconsin win proving they are a good/great team? No, that is my only point. So it means nothing, what matters at this point is what happens in the following weeks.

It could be 2009 all again and then 5 years of crap, so people really have to wait awhile before they start dancing in the aisles to 3.0, IMO.
Illinois drops a lot of passes, with that said I am sure they will catch all the drops they've made today next week and it will be a dog fight

Yes the defense had to step up today. But CJ was missing those deep connections with J Smith today. These were passes doesn't normally miss. These were 2 maybe 3 TD passes.
