That is a grizzly bear. And two cubs.

I guess most of the idiots in that crowd must have been of the mindset that they don’t have to outrun the bear, they just have to outrun the person next to them.

As someone who has spent a fair number of days in the park - this is pretty typical. It's surprising that there's only about 1-2 incidents a year where an animal lights up a tourist.
I've seen people pushing their kids to stand next to bull elk, people putting plastic grocery bags on antlers, etc.

I don't know, one of my favorite family pictures was taken by my aunt from the back seat when my grandmother was feeding a family of grizzlies in Yellowstone by throwing bread onto the hood of the car. I blew it up and it's in my cabin, they're friendly-looking when they're not trying to kill something.

I spend a lot of time in Estes Park/RMNP and see crap like this all the time. Albeit not with grizzly’s. Usually with elk/moose. People get way too close to wildlife regardless of what rangers/the park tell them. Especially when babies are involved.

I (not so) secretly, on numerous occasions, have wished one of those things would charge and tear into someone. Not in a lethal way. But enough to scare the shit out of everyone so they learn their lesson.

CSB - Back in the day we did a trail ride in Chalk Canyon above Nathrop, Co. Prior to the ride the boss told us that there was a black bear and cubs in the area and that if we came across it and it attacked to hang onto the trail nags because they would take off and head to the stable. No chance of trying to control the horse, just hang on and enjoy the ride. We saw the sow and cubs but they were about 100 yards away.

My trail nag liked to roll in the dirt, and did it twice with me on the back.

how could you be that stupid. wow
You’d be surprised. My sister and I witnessed something similar when we were in Yellowstone.
And the foreign (Japanese) tourists with cameras who went right up to a bull elk during rut season. He didn’t have a friendly reaction at all. 🫤

Many years ago when I was living in DC my roommate and I did a hike in Shenandoah NP. He was a little heavy and was lagging behind on the climb. As I turned a corner I saw a momma bear and two cubs crossing the trail about 20' in front of me. I turned right around and started back town the trail. As I reach him I tell him "bear, let's go." He thinks I'm bullshitting him and refuses to go back down. So we tiptoe up the trail to the corner and peak around and see the bears just hanging out right off the trail. As we're looking some dude who is walking down the trail stops and looks at us and says "is that a bear?" I tell him it's a bear with cubs. He says "cool!" and heads in the woods after the bears. I figured that we'll have time to get up the trail as he's getting mauled and we hurry past the spot and head to the top.
I never heard and yelling or saw S&R so maybe he didn't get darwin'd.

In that video, I see the guy carrying an infant.

Guess the infant was gonna be lunch if the bear decided to charge?
