Perfect Game Article on J.T. Sole (2014 commit)

It's too bad the roster limitations are so ridiculous now. Kids like this are great for programs to have around. I'm not sure if he'll ever play much but good solid catchers are fairly valuable to have in a program

Phegley was a little bigger out of HS at 5'11 and 205, but hopefully we continue to keep kids like this in state.

It would be great if Heller could lock the borders for the most part, just a quick look around.....

NEBRASKA
-Derek Burkamper; Muscatine, IA
-Austin Christiansen; Cedar Rapids, IA
-Ben Miller; Clive, IA

KANSAS STATE
-Jake Whaley; Marshalltown,IA via Marshalltown CC

MISSOURI
-Alec Rash; Adel, IA

MINNESOTA
-Alec Crawford; Wilton, IA

ILLINOIS
-J.D. Nielsen; Winterset, IA

2014 Class
Keaton McKinney; Ankeny,IA to ARKANSAS
Ryan Lillard; Urbandale, IA to KANSAS STATE
Mitch Keller; Cedar Rapids, IA to NORTH CAROLINA (according to perfect game can hit 95mph)
Jake Westphal; Sioux City, IA to TENNESSEE
Malique Ziegler; Des Moines, IA to NORTHERN ILLINOIS
Parker Johnson; Des Moines, IA to ARKANSAS-LITTLE ROCK
Colby Carmichael; Des Moines, IA to NORTHERN ILLINOIS
Brock Neuhaus; Bettendorf, IA to KANSAS STATE

Numerous guys are going the JuCO route along with a couple players going to Creighton, W.Illinois, Oakland, Air Force, etc...

The point is, the state of Iowa by itself has enough talent for Iowa to field a solid team from top to bottom. Is Iowa going to outrecruit a team like North Carolina, Arkansas, Tennessee for a guy? More than often probably not. However, even if Heller can keep a third of those guys I listed in state in the future, then Iowa can be successful at baseball.

good post. the problem comes back to these ridiculous scholarship and roster limitations. you have very little margin for error now.

then you combine that with the draft looming over your best signees and it is a real crap shoot and makes for a difficult process
