Perkins and the 3 point shot

My 2 cents. Hire a shot Doctor/Guru/Coach.

Wake up every morning, stretch, meditate and visualize.

Shoot at least 1000 3s.

Get some good sleep.

Wake up and do it again from now until the season begins.

Everything will be all right.

My opinion...... ad $5 and it still won't get you a cup of coffee at Starbucks. I think the class has some really good pieces and I like their potential. The weight room will decide how good they are next year.

Keegan- I would say will be the best player on the team next year. He has the athletic ability and decision making that will really show up the more he is depended on.

BIG O- If he can get in better basketball shape and provide 15 minutes a game next year, that would be a win for Iowa. I see him more helping on the Defensive side with 3-4 fouls a game to give as the biggest help. Iowa needs another big man for a year or two that can start ahead of him. He needs time obviously to anyone, but I can see a role for him that would be pretty key on the defensive end.

Ulis-Perkins- If one of them can somewhat breakout next year, that's a win also. Either one. We need some quickness on defense up front to keep drives from happening.

PMAC- Find the weight room and his potential is really high for Iowa's style of play. He could be the slasher we are all looking for. His time will depend on his ability to defend the 3 or 4 position on the other team. He HAS to gain some good weight.

Kris M.- I don't think we know what he is capable of yet, but I think he could really help with outside shooting and also with rebounding. I see him is that guy who hits a few big shots a game and hustles get loose balls. I also think he is a very capable passer. He may be a really good reserve next year. I think his defense will decide how many minutes he gets.
I doubt his time will depend much, if at all, on his defensive prowess.

I think Big O is going to be a quality player next year. I base this on his dunk. He can jump and should be a good rebounder with his size. Tony is going to be the breakout surprise next year. I like beer.
I don't like beer. I think Josh O has some potential, but next year is a developmental year. I'd be surprised to see numbers above 4 points and 4 rebounds. We need Robbins or another transfer plug and play 5.

Both could be true. I hope Josh isn't just a total long shot to ever play in the B1G. I don't believe Iowa is prepared to waste scholarships.

Instead of worrying about the three point shot, why can't Iowa identify at least a little bit with a dribble drive to the hoop game? Goodness knows it works for other teams against us.,
The theory that I am working on is that with an effective 3 point shot he would round out his game and open things up for him to drive..it appears to me that his ability to get to the basket is well ahead of his ability to hit the 3.

I feel very, very good about Tony, and he was the one I was most concerned about coming in last year because he's a bit of a tweener for his game. However he has a very nice mix of strength, quickness and hops coupled with just a very, very strong "baller" vibe where he just gets things intuitively on the court.

His outside shooting long term will be the key, because teams will play off him like they do Joe T until he can shoot 33% or better from 3. We'll see how that progresses, but I feel much more confident about him long term than Joe T right now ... just haven't seen a statistical improvement in his offensive or defensive efficiency and he made mistakes this year that should have been erased by his 2nd season if he was progressing as desired. Ulis looked like a more traditional PG but is unproven also.
