the 2nd half a '3- Pete'!

OK, I did steal this from Tom Kakert.

When Peter Jok gets that stroke going, he's nearly impossible to stop.
And if you do that, then UuuuuuuuThoff is going to drop some on your head.

Today, against NW, Peter Jok scored 26 points in 22 minutes.
When he got on fire in the second half, he torched the Wildcats.
Peter "The Arsonist" will be the hottest player on the Hawkeyes
next season. In the meantime he can team up with Uthoff and
help the Hawkeyes win the Big Ten Title this year.

If the rest of team plays next year like the reserves did today, joke will not be nearly effective as teams can focus on him as rest of team will not be a threat

I can't remember the last time Iowa had 2 scorers this good, and able to create in their own.

In the last 5 games, Uthoff is averaging 19.4 pts and Jok is averaging 19.6 pts. Wow!
Replace the MD bizarro crappy shooting fest with a decent game and it would be quite a bit higher.

Peter Jok is a monster on offense, but it's really his improvement on the defensive end that's impressed me.

He use to be an absolute liability, and now he leads the press, and shuts down the perimeter with Clemmons and Gesell.

Well, otoh, they weren't out there with Jok at all. Having someone like Jok on the floor automatically leaves one of these guys with more opportunity to make plays, don't you think? I also think Cook will see plenty of playing time next year.

Except Fran had to get on him after each three pointer from the corner early in the second half. He stood there an admired it then celebrated with the bench. Fran yelled at him to get into position for the press. Anyways, very streaky shooter who has been a lot more consistent this year. And defense has dramatically improved.

Like they said, 'you're almost surprised when he doesn't make one.' When you start thinking that about a player, you have a hell of a shooter.

Eh, who cares? The funnest part of him making a 3 in front of the bench is him celebrating with the bench. It's awesome every time.

Obviously the coaching staff cares. He's got a job to do on defense especially when pressing.

Celebrating with the bench after hitting a three and then giving up a layup at the other end turned that three into a one.

You guys giving Pete extra conditioning in practice tomorrow? Geez.

One more observation added to those above.........I thought Pete really started today (he has done this before) to force the defense to foul him. There were times he drove that were not necessarily good shot opportunities but he initiated contact on defenders who were back peddling and drew the foul.....seems like he was working that a lot more today. With his free throw stroke that is a very good tactic and gives the Hawks another advantage. NW coach even mentioned (not Pete by name) that Iowa was doing that to them today.

Pete was very aggressive taking the ball to the hole. I think he either scored or got fouled every time. If he can improve his handles just a little bit he will be really special.

Not everyone is gonna love this post but I don't personally like the way Jok has played the last two ball games. He's been forcing shots and playing a lot more selfishly and, quite frankly, this TEAM is better than the sum of its parts. They have to play together. This is Uthoff's team right now, with Jok being a very good second piece. It's not his team.
The telling play to ne yesterday that brought out my frustration was when Wagner started the break giving the ball to Jok with Wagner and Baer running the floor, and Jok had ZERO intention of giving either of them the reward for running the floor.
I really think Fran has to regroup this team and get them back to playing the kind of team basketball that got us to sweeps of Michigan State and Purdue, and get Jok and Uhl back playing within the system and within the offense. It's gonna get us beat if he doesn't by someone who has no business beating us. Uthoff struggled against Maryland but the forced play of Jok and Uhl was just as damaging to us in that game as the way Uthoff played.

This team is way better when Uthoff and Jok are making shots and getting theirs.

I have watched Jok al year with the ball in his hands on the break and take a very contested shot. I have not seen him pass yet on the break. In my opinion he would be better off to pass early and then get a return pass for a clean look.

I hope Jok continues to drive to the basket to get fouls...especially if it is against starters (provided the refs will make the call). Putting an opposing player on the bench or making them soft on defense is the best way to beat any team.

He is being aggressive and made the right decision. He is an unselfish passer and had what was the best no look pass if the game when he drove the middle and passed it to Woody? for what would have been an easy layup, but I believe a foul was called. Jok is a very confident shooter, but not a selfish player at all.

Just hope he works on his ball handling a little this Summer. At least once a game he is fumbling around with the ball like it is lopsided. Great game again though and his improvement on defense has been a pleasant surprise.

Think you are seeing his legs finally starting to feel better. Last year you could tell he was healed but a little tentative still. Makes a big difference with his ability to get to the hole now.

You're right....I don't like this at all. Seriously? Regroup the team, team basketball.....they had a 29 pt lead at onetime against a pretty darn good NW team. As talented a NW team with a few vets and some young talent as good I've seen maybe ever? Collins has this young team focused with an eye on how Iowa played the game yesterday...Peter and all.

This game of BB should not be viewed in a vacuum of a couple of games which irritates me to no end and then Brian Forbes hits six 3pt shots yesterday for MSU......against Rutgers and 0-7 3pt attempts against the 2 games with Iowa. If you only saw the Iowa games you might say "Not a good 3pt shooter that Brian Forbes kid is??" He's been on fire of late if folks only remember the Iowa games. Of course the defense match up made a huge difference going 0-7 with Iowa. Thank you Sapp.

Sure, in every BB game there are plays you'd like to have back or re-play the game (Maryland) but Peter per Fran is a very cerebral player. I trust Fran on this, why not? I think Peter realizes people are trying to defend his outside shot leaving the drive open plus Peter is trying to draw the foul and get to the FT line which he did yesterday and he makes FTs (Whitey did this a lot) and thirdly, he's a bucket maker with the contact it's a 3 pt play instead of just a 2 pt lay up.

Yea...your thought doesn't make sense to me.

+1...glad you brought this up ... I remember a post where someone said they basically thought PJ should nothing but shoot 3's...hum.

yes he has been working on expanding his game to include getting to the FT line..which cant be done shooting nothing but 3's...getting much better at picking his spots as to when to drive it. As well as PJ has played....wow he could get even better.

Yep and he has been one of the five best players in the big ten this year along with Valentine, uthoff, yogi and Trimble.

Friend, I think you are wrong about this. Jok was aggressive not selfish. There is a difference. I believe he is doing what the coaches are asking of him. This only helps Uthoff. You are right that he could have given it up on the break but I do believe he scored on that play. I think Fran wants Peter to get to the line more than he has.

I agree with this. Pete only took 10 shots in the game and only 3 of his trips to the line were from him driving the basket (1 other from the T and 2 where he was fouled in the open court following steals).Nothing about that, or watching the game yesterday, screams ball hog to me. I'm not saying he doesn't sometimes take ill advised contested shots, he took a couple against Maryland, but yesterday was just a matter of him feeling it and taking advantage of the situation. Pretty sure even Fran said "when he's in that zone you gotta feed him".

Peter has been carrying himself on the court completely different the past 4-5 games and I love it. He isn't a ball hog but, honestly, he needs to hunt some shots bc he is that good. The latest development of him posting up and taking the ball to the hoop has been great. He is a different player now than the beginning of the season and Iowa is a better team for it.

Its no accident that Woody's recent offense bump has come at the same time as Pete upping his game, the lane is opening up bc they have to guard both Pete and JU 25 feet out.

When you have players with the ability to score, like Jarrod and Pete, you want them to be a bit selfish.

Yep. Give Pete the damn ball. The more confidence he gets, the better this team, and uthoff will get.

Peter's shooting conscience diminishes a little with every made 3. After throwing in the off balance shots against NW I'm thinking Peter isn't going to find many shots at all unappealing. Fortunately, I don't think he's shown ones he can't make.
