Peter Jok on Purdue's defense:

Have not seen the game on TV yet but we could see from row 31 that Peter was being held. Purdue has no other way to stop Jok from scoring. If we could see it, the officials could see it too. Why would they not call that? Toward the end of the game, they did make some calls but why not throughout the rest of the game?

This was a pretty dishonest crew. Jok was plainly held. The smaller black guard from Purdue, whose name escapes me, had Brady with two hands on one play directly before an official and it wasn't called. Swanigan should have been in foul trouble the entire game. It was obviously two different sets of rules today.

If you're not getting some home court love when you're in the top ten when's it gonna happen Lord. When's it gonna be our turn?

Disappointed this thread wasn't about Pete breaking Boilmaker ankles.
I feel horrible saying this but if he would have made that shot it would have been one of the best GIFs ever! I don't wish any ill will on the Purdue players but that was as true to the saying as anything I have seen.

Except I have no idea why you would feel horrible. Jok crossed him up and making the shot would have put the play on Sportscenter. It still might make it.

The refs were consistently bad both ways today, no doubt about it.

How about that bogus 5 second call on Iowa in-bounding towards the end of the game?
Clemmons left the ball at his feet for a couple of seconds while directing players around the court. Lots of officials will start the count in that situation.

Yeah, that was straight up stupid, vengeful and unnecessary. Our team is respectful of the refs, regardless of how bad they can be, and these zebras were acting like our boys were some kind of malcontents. Ridiculous. Outside of possibly Woody, all of our guys are considered choir boys.

They got that right. We watched the replay and he didn't start asking until four seconds.

I think it's also a sign of respect that Jok is earning as he continues to develop his game and confidence. What else can you do but stick on him like glue and rough him up off of the ball when you can.

The kid can flat out shoot the ball. 95% of his shots look like they are going in. I think I saw him front rim one jumper for the first time in weeks. His misses are often half way down.

He also has no conscious which I love. A miss does not throw him off. He's making the next one. That shot in the second half when he was on a 1 on 3 fast break was cold blooded.... I am yelling noooooo from my seat and then yessssss after he rains it in. Fun stuff.

With a comment of the refs saying Jok was acting. It does make you wonder if the holding on Jok and the bad overall calling of most of the 2nd half, was about Woodbury embellishing the elbow to his head earlier.

It was a bad crew that called a bad game.
It happens.
Fortunately, Iowa was able to overcome purdue AND the officials for a stellar second half.
Makes a good week look even better when they win by double digits on the road despite a terrible defensive performance on Thursday and double digits at home today despite terrible officiating.

Woody wasn't embellishing. Hass had him right in the throat with his elbow, he does that to anyone and they are going to snap backwards (the guy makes Woody look small).

I think they did hold him a little, but he's gotta make it more obvious. I mean throw your hands in the air, hell even pull your shirt out of your shorts and make it obvious.

Regardless this crew is very good (Boroski, Steratore, and the other guy). They have officiated a lot of basketball in their day. They knew how they were calling the game, the problem is Purdue likes to play "ugly" basketball. That's how they can win, is if their bigs are allowed to play "ugly" ball and get their points.

Iowa did get sped up by Purdue pressure and they forced Iowa into a couple of "bad" turnovers that could of been avoided if Iowa just settled down.

I guess Raphael Davis is still allowed to grab and hold, since he is the returning defensive player of the year. Pete needs to not let his frustration cause him to make stupid fouls.

Boroski hates Iowa. Iowas mistakes don't defend the kind of dishonest officiating we saw today. It is always possible to play better but you should only have to out play your opponent, not the opponent and the officials like today. You just don't see that on other teams' home court very often.

But, the boys got through it and are on to the toughest game of the season.
