Since we may have seen the last of Petras as the Iowa QB (and I think that should be the case),
I would hope that he will be treated well during his remaining time at Iowa and that he leaves
with good feelings. He seems like an excellent young man and has given it his all. He just got
caught up in a perfect storm.
1) IMO, he could have (and maybe will in the portal) been an effective QB in the right situation.
He needed, more than most QBs, a solid OL, a well- designed passing game, and better than average WRs. Iowa had none of those. So he made a poor choice.
2) Iowa, more than most teams, needed a versatile, mobile, athletic playmaker and thus made a bad choice with Petras.
3) The clueless Iowa coaches failed to see the disconnect of 1) and 2)
So the Iowa coaches made 2 of the 3 mistakes.
I hope Petras does well in the future, both in and out of football, and I think he will.
