Is Louisville really a better job than Purdue? Seems like a lateral at best.
Awe okay. Maybe he’ll be fired by the end of the season. They have struggled this season to say the least.
Seems fishy, that an external offer would have been made right away.
Which is good for Schiano because given how the Ohio State defense has regressed as the season progressed he might be looking for a job after the season is over anyway.
So far no major sports news outlet like ESPN, CBS Sports, Yahoo Sports, etc is running anything on Petrino being fired.
Anyone who would give up his up-start program at Purdue to take the job at Louisville would basically be saying that he has absolutely no interest in the quality of school that he is representing, and would prefer to try to win by having absolutely no academic standards while recruiting.
Yes you don't fire a coach mid-season to hire Greg Schiano, who was rejected in some recent job openings due to being on the staff at PSU when the Sandusky stuff was going on. Very doubtful a P5 team is hiring him, but I could be wrong. A team could hire Schiano any time, you don't move on your current coach to get a jump on hiring a guy no one wants.
Good Question. I'd much rather live in Louisville than West Lafayette, and I'm sure recruiting to Louisville would be easier as well. This off season will be sure to test Purdue's pockets and their commitment to football. My gut tells me Purdue is tired of the football cellar and will pay to keep him. He's at 3.8M now, so they'll need to get to probably 5M with another X amount of millions committed to football investments.
