Pfizer Settles on Bribery Allegations, Paying Kickbacks

A couple of notes:

1. If you read all the words, you will note that it was actually little pharma that engaged in misconduct, before being acquired by Pfizer. Pfizer stopped the programs.
2. This is going to sound unduly dismissive, but in the world of medical fraud settlements where I spend a fair bit of time, $60m is like nuisance value, and probably far more than the g would have realized if they didn’t have Pfizer’s deep pockets to reach into. I’m sure this liability was reflected in a purchase price adjustment following diligence.
3. Fancy Meals and honoraria is like amateur hour fraud that has mostly been quashed for like 10 years. As a lot of new companies trying to make the jump to commercialization do, Bio haven (the ne’er do well) cut corners. And rightfully got kicked because meals are about the easiest standard to comply with
