Phil Parker

Without Phil Parker this program would be in the toilet.
100% accurate, but, Phil also has that stubbornness to him that kills us in games like ours vs. Purdue.. he let's 1 freaking guy single-handedly beat us.

Hey Phil, Bell is going to get the ball.
Hey Phil, they're throwing to Bell here.
Phil...they threw to Bell again!

Phil: "let's keep it the same, maybe throw a LB out to cover him."

This “defensive genius” really can’t figure out how to stop Purdue but everyone else has seemed to. What gives
Holy crap, Purdue scored *24* freaking points, and you put the loss on Parker! Maybe if our Prodigal son OC could put up as many points as Debbie has put up in the *first half* (27) against Purdue that wouldn't be an issue!

We were also short a couple starters on ‘D’ that would have mattered
They were short their rb, best wide receiver, and head coach, plus multiple others. If Moore had played we would have been more screwed because we couldn't cover one guy let alone two.

Well, Bell is pretty damm good. Kirk said he is one of the best receivers he has seen in the Big Ten in 22 years of coaching. I think that loss was more about our defense being without Jack Campbell and Seth Benson in that game and being unable to stop the run in the 4th quarter, and all the penalties.

Phil Parker is literally the best coach in the state of Iowa at anything. That said, he refuses to double team NFL talent like Bell and Christian McCaffrey, leading to embarrassing losses. Also, Nebraska converted a 2nd and 29 last week and our final scheme against MSU in the title game was a thing of true ugliness that I never want to relive. He is confused on when it makes sense to gamble.

Oh for God's sake, NO ONE could successfully cover those two.

And your other references are to one play in a game Iowa won, and one play 5 years ago. And that last play was also full of holding by MSU, if you want to get picky.

You're right, no ONE person on our team can cover them. Which is why you dedicate a safety or linebacker as help on them all game long.

And the bend scheme is stupid against a good team that has 4 downs to work with late. They chewed up all 7 minutes left of that game and scored. If you gamble hard and they beat you, so what, at least you've got 3 minutes left to win or tie.

No team, dip. No team has really stopped them.

Correct. No Benson and no Campbell. Purdue scored 24. You should beat Purdue when you hold them to 24. Their defense isn't good. Fumbling at the 10 and at the 25-yard lines to take points off the board will do that.

Which leaves a defender out of the run fit, and leaves the other receivers with one-on-one matchups, with less deep help.

It's nowhere near as simple as you make it out to be.
