Where will the 2021 College Football season take Iowa, Iowa State and other programs in 2021?

The Hawkeyes have a great opportunity or challenge ahead this season, as the Hawks kickoff 2021 in Kinnick Stadium with a Big Ten showdown!

First, for the fourth straight season, no Ohio State on the schedule.

The pandemic season in 2020 cost Iowa a trip to Columbus. The Hawkeyes haven't played there, since 2013.

Our opening day opponent nearly walked away with a shocking performance in 2020, in that 42-35 shootout loss in Columbus.

Indiana will be a huge hurdle to kickoff the 2021 season for the Hawkeyes, right?

One thing to note, Indiana, Iowa and Iowa State each get off to slow starts typically in September. Tom Allen, Matt Campbell and even Kirk Ferentz each hold prime examples in their resumes.

Last year, Iowa opened 0-2. Losing to back to back B1G West rivals, ahead of winning six straight games, as QB Spencer Petras began to get his sea legs for B1G football!

IU needed a remarkable finish to top Penn State in OT. The Hoosiers also won 14-6 in Madison. Shades of Iowa 10-6 in 2015?

Louisiana rolled into Ames and took out the Cyclones 31-14 at Jack Trice.

"They're next level. It's a program serious about winning. [Billy] Napier is an SEC-level coach. The culture is top to bottom there. Those guys have a P5 swagger." The Ragin' Cajuns open at Texas in 2021.

Iowa faces two media darlings to kick start or kick off 2021?

Indiana of B1G fame, and Iowa State of the Big 12. Glad it isn't Louisiana headed to Kinnick for 2021.

Talk about QBs.

Iowa isn't facing All-Americans out of the block, but some of the top in their respective conferences.

1. Michael Penix, Jr. - "I think they're a completely different team with" him, "so he looks going into the fall practices is their biggest question .... They've plugged a few holes with transfer guys."

2. Brock Purdy - "On film, the RB and QB are talented but not amazing, and the rest of the skill positions are just guys. But they're patient and methodical .... They love beating you three yards at a time."

3. Dual threat QB Dustin Crum is Athlon Sports top MAC QB heading into 2021. Kent State didn't resemble the last Golden Flashes program to head to Kinnick. Didn't they have something like 15 players unavailable or something?

4. QB Todd Centeio is being compared to Tim Tebow by coach Steve Addazio, who Iowa fans last saw at Boston College, when the Hawkeyes played on the frozen field in Yankee Stadium for the Pinstripe Bowl.

It is always interesting to read the blind opposing coaches section in the annual CFB edition Athlon Sports produces.

At one time Athlon Sports offered a Big Ten edition, but in today's College Football that is only reserved for the SEC.
