Play Calling

I really think Greg Davis needs to be examined. I think if Iowa had ran 70% of the time with Wadley/Daniels we cruise to a 28-7 type victory. However ,it seems that Davis has really tried to be cute lately with the passing game and it is backfiring on this time.

Dynamic play calling - including Wadley, success. Lack of imagination, struggles.

I do believe that Iowa is sand-bagging a bit here though. We did see some plays we haven't seen all year on both sides of the ball. Not many, but a few.

It bit them against NDSU and to a lesser degree here. But on offense, Wadley absolutely must be allowed to get involved or they will struggle. And for gawd's sake, quit getting penalties on the opening drive of the second half.

You have to mix it up. If he does what you say people complain we are too conservative, same old Kirk. The reverse play even though did not work, I liked the call. Penalties have killed us last two weeks, they put O coordinator in a bad position. Really need to get another WR beside Vandy. Just no separation by other WR.

The play calling was bad sure, but man the players looked like geriatrics out there.

We lack speed and athleticism on both sides of the ball. Unfortunately, our coordinators are poor at putting guys in positions to succeed. We have very average LBs (outside of Jewell) and safeties but yet we play base defense the whole time.....

At this point, Wadley needs 20 touches a game.

Not sure he could hold up all season with 20 touches a game but he different needs more. Also, if Daniels wouldn't have had two close/ticky tacky penalties called against his last two big runs we all would be signing his praises and how great of a 1-2 punch we have.

Agreed, we need both Daniels and Wadley. Daniels gets some tough yards after contact. Neither could hold up a whole season as the primary back.

Seemed like we went after play action to start the game before we ever got the run going. Hated on drive we missed 4th and 5. Wadley was shredding the D and we took him out and drive stalled. Should have pounded them with run then take our shots downfield. Haven't seen as many swing passes get we ball let them make a play. Don't know why CJ just doesn't look the same as last year. Davis did make a lot of head scratching play calls today. But glad to see the boys get redemption and run the clock out. Finally just like last week don't think that was a penalty on Ike to start 2nd half.

Worst play was first snap after King's 50-yard kick-off return. Daniels probably called by Davis--and CJ probably suckered into pass audible, resulting in sack. Can't believe pass was called with the way OL was starting to run-block. Tremendous momentum wasted there.

The d line was invisible at times we looked better in the raider package. CJ B had 4 to 5 seconds on some of his sacks plenty of time to throw away also we need to throw some deep balls to make them defend the whole field.

When you can't pass block, you need to throw quick slants and the like, not drop back and paint a giant bulls eye on your QB. But hell, what we do we know? Davis and KF are clearly offensive masterminds. Just examine the evidence.

I didn't understand that play call at all. Our OL was just starting to get a push up front, its crunch time, and you run a reverse to a young player that has touched the ball once this year?
Running a jet sweep with him or at least motioning him to set up an inside run would've been better than a reverse that we rarely block well on, especially in critical situations.

But that would be tipping our hand for our opponents of a later date.......wouldn't want to spoil the surprise, and actually try to win the game in front of us. o_O

The bad news? The offense es no bueno. The good news? Most B1G West offenses are also no bueno.
