Awhile back someone posted a sampling of an article in The Athletic by Dochterman about the Ferentz hiring. I signed up and it was fantastic. This week alone, there were several great articles about the Hawks and the upcoming game against Minnesota (as well as the game Hayden pulled out the overalls), but also numerous awesome features by columnists for several NFL teams about Greg Mabin (https://theathletic.com/569668/2018...n-to-continue-sunday-will-include-greg-mabin/), Beathard (https://theathletic.com/566224/2018...ps-and-beathards-hard-lesson-vs-the-chargers/) and Jewell (https://theathletic.com/569578/2018/10/05/denver-broncos-rookie-linebacker-josey-jewell/). And I just saw another about Ettore Ewen (https://theathletic.com/568860/2018/10/05/college-football-wwe-pro-wrestling-connections/). I don't normally plug this type of stuff, but selfishly I'd love for enough people to sign up so that the business succeeds and I get to keep reading great sports journalism. If you're a general sports nut, or other college/pro sports teams, it's a real treat.

I used to like Morehouse, but now I prefer Dochterman. He's way more knowledgeable and has a much better memory. I wish his articles were still free. I stopped following Morehouse after the Wisconsin game, kinda felt like he was rooting against us. I know he doesn't have to be a fan of the Hawks to cover them, but I can also choose to not be a fan of his when he pulls against my team. Still like their podcast because of Doc although I haven't heard one for a while.

I'm relatively new on The Athletic. They have a feedback system for readers at the end of stories and editorials, with only three options - 'Awesome', 'Solid' and 'Meh'.

I'm not an easy grader, but I have found myself giving the Scott Dochterman stories about 80% 'Awesomes' and the remainder 'Solids'. I am more impressed with his research, writing style and fairness with every story - and I find I really look forward to what comes next - and it comes quickly and regularly. Other writers are usually pretty 'Solid' too, with a few 'Awesomes' here and there - though there was one story by Nicole Auerbach this week that had me requesting another option quite south of 'Meh'.

Good investment so far. Try it!

Because he probably was. Pretty sure morehouse is from southwest Wisconsin. I’ve always had that vibe from him

Dochterman is the only iowa beat guy challenging the coaches, football or basketball.
