I noticed something this last game that I think shows Polasek's influence on our game plan as we did something quite a lot that we normally don't do on offense.
Let me give some background to help understand why I believe this. When we played NDSU, Polasek had his lead blockers (pullers and backs) lead away from the whole the ball carrier was going, to make Jewell chase the lead blockers, creating an unfilled gap that the ball carrier was able to get through many times. I'm assuming Polasek noticed how much Jewell keyed the lead block and basically ran him out of the play numerous times.
If you noticed in the Maryland game, on almost all our inside zone plays, our FB went the opposite way of our RB, drawing a LB with him and creating an unfilled gap which allowed our RB's to almost always get positive yds. since there was no initial defender to shoot or defend the gap. We never broke any long runs on inside zone, but those positive runs (3-6 yds.) added up nicely.
When I saw the FB continually going away from the RB, it made me think of what NDSU did against us, and that Polasek may have a hand in scheming/game planning that. I could be wrong, it's just a theory.
Don't get me wrong, we've used the FB before to seal backside in the past, but how they used the FB last week seamed different than their past tendencies.
