Poll might be worded in a way that doesn't get at what you're asking?
Trump lied to us about Covid for many reasons. Not creating a panic may be one, but so is covering his own ass, trying to protect business, willful ignorance, etc.
And, yes, Trump thrives on creating a panic in most cases. Caravans! Antifa! Socialism! Etc!

He is on tape. He lied. That much is indisputable. As far as the panic angle goes, Trump's administration is all about creating panic. His campaign ad showing Harris laughing, while Biden is kneeling, and the world behind them burning is all about creating panic. Trump's entire campaign is centered around creating panic if Biden is elected. It is literally all he is running on.

I just don't buy this argument. Trump is on record for claiming that the economy and the stock market will collapse under Biden. That is pure panic pushing. He doesn't care about instilling confidence in the economy. He only cares about how good the economy can make him look while he is president. After he leaves office I can guarantee you that Trump hopes the economy gets completely shredded.

Right, but in the beginning I think he believed that he could just cover it up and the economy would just keep rolling along. His narcissism allows him to believe he’d have that kind of control. I don’t think inciting panic is beyond him. I don’t believe that at all. I just think that his not wanting to cause an economic panic was about protecting his interests.

He should’ve lied more. Christ people were binge buying, leaving the packages outside 48 hours, wiping down shoes, quitting jobs, buying ammo, disowning relatives, basically just freaking out. I was one of them. Americans are soft. No longer are we the home of the brave.

After the initial overreaction we doubled down this summer. Would’ve been the perfect time to get Covid. Instead we were told to hunker down. Now Fall/Winter stuck indoors spreading it to other Vitamin D deficient saps. Surge in schools? Kids should’ve got it this summer and slept it off in a backyard tent.

Yes, but so did practically everyone else involved in the response. Fauci has even admitted he lied about using masks to avoid a shortage for medical professionals.
You really should be used to our government lying to us on a regular basis. It's been going on for a very, very long time.

No. He knew how deadly it was and ignored it. He didn't want it to be that deadly or impact the economy so he just acted like it wasn't a problem, even though he knew it was. Completely negligent behavior.

No. Fauci said in February there wasn't a need for masks at that time and there wasn't. He was trying to prevent panic buying that would impact the availability of PPE for front line providers. That's to be commended. He also advocated wearing a mask and did so himself, unlike Trump.

Equating Trump's lies and lack of action throughout the crisis to what Fauci said in the early on is absurd.
 
Bottom Line: he lied because he thought it would benefit him.

Tony Schwartz, Michael Cohen, Anthony Scaramucci, Barbara Res, Mary Trump, Maryanne Trump, et al. How many more people who have known or worked with Trump for decades need to come forward to inform us? We see it almost every day. Its only a matter of time before those who worked with him at the WH come forward and confirm the obvious: Trump is giant narcissist. Others will will make it public as well..... including Hope, Jared, and other members of the Trump clan (once the casket is lowered).

Yes. We’ve strung this thing out. The American public cried for a vaccine all spring. Now it’s be ready in a January and people are like “oh, idk if I’ll take it. Seems rushed. Trump is mean.” We should’ve focused on therapeutics. Our current therapeutics are old drugs that shorten the illness from 7 days to 5. What a joke.

We went at this wrong. Should’ve
shut down big cities to minimize initial surge. Stockpiled PPE and maximize hospital beds. Then in May when it was clear we’re ready everyone let their kids get it. Seriously. Let them go full Rumspringa. They sleep in tents month of May. That builds up a barrier of immunity right there with Very few deaths. July it’s the 20-30 year olds turn.

Without reliable therapeutics we aren’t saving life’s social distancing, we are just postponing deaths. The kids wore gloves and got bathed in sanitizer all summer so now school starts and they still haven’t been exposed. We’re looking at another surge this winter while everybody is indoors and Vitamin D deficient. Could’ve been avoided.
 
He didn’t want to create a panic...

...that would spook the stock market

...and tank the economy

...and screw his re-election chances

In the end, every decision Trump makes is based on what benefits HIMSELF.

After Pearl Harbor, not his first speech but later, FDR told the American people how hard this was going to be and he emphasized that. I don't recall any panic. The American people can handle the truth, but we haven't had much practice the last 4 years with the daily lies that comes out of trump's mouth.
