Yes another tariff thread. I’m curious what the businesses we all work for are planning on doing if they are impacted by tariffs. In the circles I run in it seems everyone is planning to raise prices, but I’m curious if that is the case across the board. Since we have an interesting cross section of folks I’m curious on your plans.

Not that anyone will follow the request, but could we please keep the poll responses to those folks who work in businesses? That way it is a closer reflection to what may happen as a result of Trump’s policies.

So I’m a manufacturers rep who represents about 15 different companies. 80% of our companies we represent have plants in China, Mexico, US, etc. while they might have facilities in the states most products as we know come from overseas. Just so far since Friday we’ve received a 12% increase from one, a 7% from another, a 15% from another. And we know there are more coming. What I find funny is of course the contractors (who all voted for Trump) are now shitting their pants, builders are throwing fits (they all voted for him) as lumber and ALL of their materials are going up. One of your answers on there was no increase and gain market share. How can do you expect anyone to eat 15-25 % tariff increases? You would be out of business in less than a year.

I work in the Ag industry. Some the of raw materials for crop protection products come from China. The increased cost of those products will be passed on to our retailers, and I’m guessing in turn be passed on to their growers.
Don’t expect to see a 25% increase in farmers’ input costs though, because there’s still a lot of inputs sourced in the U.S. I would guess farmers will see a 5-10% increase in inputs.

I'd imagine our rates will go up with the tariffs. We just put in an order for 50 new Kenworth semi tractors, they can't tell us if they are still going to be $175,000 or go up to $200,000 a piece depending on the tariffs they have to pay at Kenworth. If they go up to the 200k we'll pass that along to our customers and then they will raise the price of pop, beer, what ever you buy at a grocery store that we're shipping to you.

I honestly don’t think this is likely, but wanted to give all possible options. As I think about it suppose there are some industries where margins are crazy - luxury goods from Europe come to mind.

I’m a contractor and I sure as shit did not vote for that piece of shit. We have not raised prices yet(we do roofing, electrical, and GC work). We will be raising prices April 1st though.
