More than three-quarters of scientists in the U.S are weighing leaving the country and are looking at Europe and Canada as their top relocation spots, according to a survey released Thursday.

The scientific journal Nature poll found that 75.3 percent of scientists are considering leaving the U.S. after the administration cut funding for research. Nearly a quarter of respondents, 24.7 percent, disagreed.

The highest contingent of researchers who are looking to move out of the country were those who are early in their careers. Nearly 550, out of 690 who responded to the survey, said they are considering leaving the U.S. Out of the 340 Ph.D. students, 255 shared the same inclination, the poll found.

The administration, along with tech billionaire and close Trump adviser Elon Musk, with the help of the Department of Government Efficiency, has terminated entire agencies and made cuts in the last two months in an effort to shrink the size and scope of the federal government.

Some of those reductions were felt at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), where all grants for equity issues, which encompass studying Black maternal health and HIV, were canceled. The cap on indirect costs of NIH grants was capped at 15 percent.

The NIH was also ordered recently to halt efforts to terminate the funding for grants intended for hospitals, universities and other institutions by a federal judge after numerous lawsuits.

Former Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said she was concerned about the recent cuts to grants flowing through the NIH.

"I'm worried on a lot of fronts," Sebelius said Wednesday. "The kinds of cuts that were just announced are devastating and will set science back and set research back."

These cuts have also affected the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), which has been hit with layoffs.

More than three-quarters of Americans, 76 percent, said they have a great or fair amount of confidence in scientists to do what is best for the public, according to a Pew Research Center survey that was published in mid-November last year. The figure was a minor uptick from October 2023, when 73 percent of respondents said the same.

I doubt many people are happy to be around you regardless of political affiliation.
When you are as miserable as the liberals that’s how you tend to view things. You should seek help before you commit a mass shooting at a school or something.

Don't let the door hit you.

Do you need help packing?

Upon reading the headline, I knew the MIB would be fapping to this news.

Only dumb white trash are valued in MAGA world. Who needs scientists, doctors, or any other uppity libs, anyway?

You dumb sumbitches can’t die off soon enough. I only hope your deaths are long and excruciating.

And we already suffer from not enough people wanting to get into engineering, medicine, and the sciences before this. I can barely find a qualified American geotech engineer right now.
Most folks can’t pass the exams to get into those fields.

Yes. Come help. This country is trash.
The pendulum will swing back. It always does.

And MAGAts will still be worthless dregs of society living out the rest of their meaningless existence in the same obscurity and irrelevance as they are now. They are fools—a lot like the rabid fan of some sports team who believes their team winning adds meaning and importance to their life. It will pass. And much like the players and coaches of a team who couldn’t care less about Joe Blow Trailer Trash fan, the same is true of Donald Trump, who privately laughs at and disparages these idiots. One day, a few of them might wake up and realize no one actually ever cared about them, including Donald Trump.

When it comes to MAGA, they were just pawns to be used in their own demise.

Canadian travel bookings to the US - looking ahead 4-6 months - are already down 75% across the board.

No one wants to come here, because if they "say the wrong thing" they can end up being a profit-pawn in a for-profit detention facility for weeks (or months).

They don't want to spend their money here, and they're literally worried they could be pulled off the street for saying something negative about Trump or Vance and "get disappeared".

Another great example of the tolerant left and diversity of opinions and ideas. Well done. Thanks for proving our point over and over and over again.

Are these the same scientists that believe a man can become a woman and vice versa?

"Science is real, but our idealogy is more real."

He’s throwing flames on purpose. Just keep walking and don’t feed that bear.

Look at what's happened to Iowa. Our best have moved on. I'm not sure what the endgame is here? So you get a racist paradise but you're all dumb as blocks of wood and live in a diseased landscape with rotten teeth and measles?
This is becoming a problem. We have had two doctors leave within the past 6 months.

You can tell a difference, never used to be like this.

And we will have to consider the same at some point, not settling for inferior care in exchange for the “privilege” to live in this beautiful location.

Yep, and one of the triplets (family) that was hoping to go to med school at UF is taking a year off now because funding was cut off.

She graduated in three years, A+ student, started grad school, only to have her opportunities taken away.

And don’t tell me the parents should find the money. There are three others currently in college right now.

My nephew went in the army right out of high school so he could get money to go to college and get an engineering degree. (Kosovo and Iraq vet). My brother wasn’t going to foot the bill.

I hate seeing kids hopes and dreams dashed, especially when they’re deserving of the help.

We have no endocrinologists in Tallahassee.
And it’s not the only specialty missing.

People have to go to Jacksonville or Gainesville to Shands. It’s ridiculous. This is the freaking capital of Floriduh.

I also would go to med school if I could find someone else pay for it.

That may be, but the fact there just isn't enough staff/teachers/profs to actually teach this stuff is also a huge contributor. My daughter (no pic) has been wait listed for Dental Hygiene school....there were 200+ applicants for 27 spots (in the meantime, she is finishing up pre-reqs and may apply to dental school)....I work in health care and its been a constant theme for RNs...huge desire for applicants to get into nursing school..but there just isn't enough peeps to actually teach the classes and prepare them for the N-Clex exam.

Daughter hammering through school as fast as she can, the uncertainty of the administration's view towards college has her spooked.

I saw that Italy, a country that has always been open to acknowledging citizenship for those abroad with heritage, abruptly closed the door to many a couple days ago due to being overwhelmed by people looking for a way out of the Americas.
