Enough of this gun inequality, I say. Every adult should receive a free gun. Free as in paid for by tax dollars.

You graduate from high school and become an adult. You have taken a class in gun safety. You can select from a number of different types of guns. Each gun is fitted with a biometric on/off switch so only the registered owner can fire it. Perhaps each has a GPS radio. Who knows? Imagine what you want.

Maybe we could develope an app for this. People could just download an iGun and the camera flash would stun the target.

Hmmm. Makes me wonder how hard taser guns are to get. Someone once told me that the serious ones like the police use (unlike the happy homeowner stunners that take a 9V battery) are not available to the public. But I don't know if that's true. For all I know, they sell them in Walmart.

Another thing I haven't heard discussed for a long time is making your own gun with a 3D printer. What are the laws on that, and on buying the parts you can't print?

This is a common liberal solution - try to give something away for free to fix a problem. ;)

I thought it was cons that wanted to arm the teachers? The moment a lib agrees with you, you cons change your minds. BAU
We never said give guns away for free but if that is the way you want go and are you including ammo and do we get our choice or do we have to accept a Fat and Furious leftover?

If I get to decide you have to accept that traceable ammo so we know who shoots who.

Ok problem solved. Now what do we do with the people who refuse to take the gun? Can we put them in gun jail or maybe restrict them to a shooting range?

No, we should just throw anyone who uses a gun to commit a crime away for as long as we can without it being "cruel and unusual". 40 years with no parole sounds about right. I bet gun crime would go way way down.

And any non violent crime never sees a cell.

Maybe not - given how easy it is to get guns and the fact that few crooks expect to get caught.

Deterrents work best when people take them into consideration. Your average crook isn't brightest consider-the-consequences type of person.

The other thing to consider is that crimes involving guns are actually LESS likely to involve injury to the victim. Probably for the obvious reason that the robbery victim (or whatever) is less likely to be confrontational. If we were being rational, we might want to give gun wielders in cases where there was no injury a shorter sentence as a reward for minimizing harm.

Where I agree with you is IF we banned guns, then anyone committing a crime with a gun (including just having one) should get a minimum LONG jail term. I don't usually approve of long sentences for anything but if you are trying to engineer a major social change like this, you can't pussyfoot around.

To hell with deterrence. Most crooks are repeat offenders. Take them off the street until they are too old to do it again.

As for the "less likely to be hurt in a gun crime", we've gone that road and I've proven it false with data. They are three times more likely to be injured in a crime involving a gun than one without a gun.

Of course you want it free - you love you some liberal policy.

We have enough spying as it is. Otherwise you may be on to something.
