I have often thought, even back when I served, that our country is over the top on this stuff. It is a job. Not a coronation. I couldn't stand the officers that needed everything to be perfect for their promotion ceremonies. You serve the country. The Country does not serve you.


Seems like a gigantic waste of funds and resources.

I kind of agree although a lot of it is paid for privately through donations.

But I would also say perhaps our 30 day flags at half staff is a bit excessive when a former president dies. I think I first noticed this when HW Bush passed away. We don't need a month of mourning IMO.

2 weeks should be enough.

Agreed,It is quite the spectacle. I think the fact that we’ve been looked at as the leading democracy in world for some time has a bit to do with it. Lots of symbolism.
