Pope hands conservatism its butt!

And he also issued a blistering attack on liberals. But the media just decided to make it a footnote.

"While some of this themes were sure to please the left, he also delivered a firm defense of traditional values, warning that the institution of marriage and family needed to be protected at "a critical moment in the history of our civilization.""

For a one sided half truth bumper sticker sticker statement Jscott will always come through. It's not that he's dishonest but he really believes the email blasts he gets hourly from the DNC are actually true

The Pope, like the book he lives by can be read many ways.

"While some of this themes were sure to please the left, he also delivered a firm defense of traditional values, warning that the institution of marriage and family needed to be protected at "a critical moment in the history of our civilization." Those remarks could irk liberals months after the Supreme Court ruled in favor of same-sex marriage nationwide."

I got no use for an old man in a dress that requires a 40,000 foot long security fence to be built around central park! I cant seem to let this go. The pope's security detail is beyond ridiculous.

They should at least force the pontificial Swiss guard to wear their traditional get-ups - so everyone feels that it truly is just a circus.

Is anyone watching the news today covering this visit? Does that man have choirs of angels following him around? Damn good music all day at every event.

Obama ripped him a new one after that bit of right wing spew.

F the Pope. He's meaningless leadership and the Vatican he comes from can go suck it. They've been manipulating things from behind the scenes for centuries now.

And Rubio trumps the pope.

It's amazing how many people including Roman Catholics don't understand the doctrine of infallibility.

It's such a minor provision, rarely if ever used that it's not even worth discussing.

Basically all it is is a provision that allows the pope to set or clarify a teaching of the church if he invokes it as a "ex cathedra" statement. It is then an unquestioned and unchangeable doctrine of the church.

The problem is that no popes have really ever specifically and clearly made an ex cathedra statement. Now some have written things on theological issues that people have questioned and said that "This is an ex cathedra statement" but the pope who wrote it never wrote "I am speaking ex cathedra on this" They are only considered to be ex cathedra statements because the pope wrote it in such a forceful way (all Catholics MUST believe this) so as to conclude that was his intention. Even those cases are rare.

It's a provision, it's possible for the pope to do. . . but its never really been done.

All other statements the pope makes are not necessarily infallible although the Catholic church teaches that it's doctrine is infallible so if he's correctly teaching the doctrine I suppose he is. But it's the doctrine itself, not the man.

Be careful what you wish for. IMO Islam would be a lot more likely to get a reformation if it had a Pope. You might make a cogent argument that western civilization has the papacy to thank for flowering even if that flowering was aimed in opposition. Having someone to "suck it" is important. :p

islam has Obama and they are reforming

Jscott, do you see Conservatism as a person? Is that why you say it's always getting it's butt handed to it? I'd have to think that conservatism is an old white man from your perspective? First or last name?

the first person I ever remember calling it a person was larry king during the Clinton vs daddy bush thing. I think it was a person named, " religious right", first and last name, and he really made it all up with pat Robertson. it was probably before j scott was born maybe, or maybe he was a kid then

This Pope confirms my conservatism. Nor related to church matter this Pope is a moron.
