Prayers for DJ Carton

I would like to know what Ohio State University is doing to help him? Sounds like they may have just sent him home.

Sorry, and I'm sure I'll get flamed. Oh well, I'll speak my mind anyway :).

There are lots of folks with mental health issues, should we not pray for them because they're not good at sports?

I certainly hope he gets feeling better(I'm not a monster :) ), but he is no more important than any other person that isn't athletic......

Unfortunately, here in Iowa we just toss them to the side and say "good luck". I'm sure he's already getting more help than your "average" person.

Of course we should equally pray for all with mental illness.

Name some besides DJ and we will add them.

I 100% agree with this . Why should one person matter more than another? Because they are a good basketball player? Sad when as as a society we seem to think they matter more than someone who is not well known for athletic talent.
I was thinking this exact same thing about the Kobe thing last week. Why does he get all the press? Cause he was a basketball star? Please, ridiculous to put his life above any other person who lost their life in that crash. Other families lost loved ones and even if they weren’t as well known as KB their lives mattered to someone just as much ...

It’s almost like the media concentrates more on publicly known figures.

I see your point, but sometimes the best thing for a kid having those kinds of issues is to be home with his family anyway which is probably a better solution than anything OSU could do.

Yeah, but they create so many who should never have become celebrities. Reality TV and Internet "influencers" have been the death of American culture. I know, not related to sports, but why is Kim Kardashian famous? Sure, she's hot, but there are more hot women who aren't famous than the other way around.

Anyway, Kobe inspired a lot of people so I get why he got the week-long tribute in American culture even if it was ridiculous at a certain point (like, by the second day). It's not like he was Mother Teresa or discovered a cure for cancer, although he sure did have a heck of an advertising career.

Boy, you really interpreted Kobe's death and the reaction in a horrible way. It is really very simple, so unbelievably simple I shouldn't even have to write it. People knew who Kobe was, they didn't know who any of the other people were. Simple logic and basic human behavior dictates that people are going to react to something that happens to somebody they know of a lot more than somebody they've never heard of. It really is that simple, and is not anybody putting a star above anybody else, they just know him and don't know the other people. End of story.

I’m not a religious person, but I appreciate the gesture of prayer. And having seen how bad mental health can disrupt a person’s life, as well as those around them, all folks suffering in their mind deserve prayers and help.

Not trying to be a dick on purpose but maybe he’s just home sick?
That's what I immediately thought of here.

He's probably used to having a strong family, friends, and coaches support system at home. Then, going to college (especially three states away in a city like Columbus...) you're kind of on your own now on campus, even as a D-1 college athlete with all the help and support that comes with that.

The college transition is really tough for most because it's the first time they've been away from their friends and family for that long, and they don't know who to turn to. A lot of kids just aren't ready for that at 18 years old.

Love it. Thank you

Celebrities get more attention than the other 99.9% of the population. That is pretty elementary. Indeed, they are known as "celebrities" because their actually routine lives are "celebrated."

By the way, wouldn't the Buckeye board be the appropriate venue for best wishes to a Buckeye player? This kid gave Iowa the bird and chose to live in Ohio, spending his basketball skills and energy hurting Iowa and our fan base. Why on Earth would anyone from Iowa take the time to even care about this kid-other than proving my point about celebrity.

You want to pray for the mentally ill, pray for the effed up bastard that lives in the dumpster at my office building and barks episodically at passers by. Now that guy deserves some good wishes from Iowans.
