Just curious, do teams today take any preventive measures to prevent reoccurring injuries such as turning an ankle? In my day we were required to were high-top shoes to help support the ankle and reduce the severity of ankle sprains. Do players tape their ankles anymore as well? It appears tp me that everyone wears low cut shoes.

It's been shown that high top shoes can actually make ankle sprains more likely. Google is pretty cool.

From own experience once your ankle gets a bad sprain or two, it's very gets more susceptible,to future ones.

I assume that most guys get some sort of taping, but CJ's looked like a weak ankle (or poor support due to shoe and non taping)....you can't just sprain an ankle that severely without one of those things. Usually get that severe of sprain from landing on another guys foot.

He could possibly return much sooner than what people seem to think around here....2-3 weeks of rehab and then wear a running brace (plastic sides) which allows for lots of movement of ankle....but will prevent an ankle from turning again.

Most strength & conditioning programs include exercises for ankle strengthening that are often part of daily maintenance. Search something like "ankle strengthening with bands". Can't say for sure if Iowa does this or at what frequency, but I would be surprised if they didn't.

I asked this before and couldn't get an answer(not even from google).

Who is the bball s&c coach?

I remember Kareem Abdul Jabbar's take on this subject. He always wore low tops when everyone in the league was switching to high top basketball shoes. It was his position that it didn't help and actually led to a greater risk of knee injuries from stiffening the ankle area....

Sorry, did not mean to upset you with an innocent question and hearing other thoughts. Next time just do not respond.

I am sure all of our sports teams and S&C trainers do nothing for injury prevention, I bet it hasn't even crossed their mind.
And another guy has to be an ***. I thought this was a sports message board?
