Basically a derogatory term. Corrections Officers actually get involved in the offender's lives while here in order to change attitudes, life styles, bad habits, etc.

A "guard" is just that. They do nothing but sit, watch, and wait to go home. They don't last very long here with that attitude, hence the derogatory term.
