PSU vs OSU

Really. I think the guy is good. He doesn't do much analysis of the match or speaking about technique, but he calls the action well.

My favorite part about Ironside calling a matches when he gets excited and says stuff like, "common .. you gotta stay tough here" It makes it feel like you are there. The PSU guys does that also. Ironside seems much more of a wrestling expert - no doubt about that.
that last match is what I am talking about, he's so excited to be excited that 30 seconds of action happens and all we know is that osu was in on the shot but hall got the take down. give me some detail man.

Hall over Crutchmer 3-2, houdinis his way out of getting taken down with short time in 3rd, and turns it into his own.

Hall won, 3-2. Crutchmer was in on a low single late in the 3rd and Hall maneuvered his way into a merkel position for 2 to go up, 3-1. Crutchmer escaped with a few seconds left to make it 3-2. Crutch was very close to a TD of his own there. Easily could have gone the other way.

PSU leads 21-13 with two matches left. Will take some hometown heroics for OSU to pull off the W.
And that's with a 9-point swing at 125 with Suriano injury defaulting out. Would have been 24-7 or something like that going into 197.

That stall call should have been on COllica in my mind. Retherford has a leg in an Collica stands up. Collica pulls his leg in and then stands. That official just got fooled.
Maybe. In my mind top guy needs to: (a) bring his opponent back to the mat, and/or (b) be working toward scoring back points. Zain was doing neither. He was clinging as tightly as he could with no aim in sight except waiting for the clock to wind down. I think it was the correct call.

Nolf embarrasses Smith in the 3rd, TF. OSU 13-8.
Just watched this match and had a very different take. Smith got a TD and was in on several shots, including almost taking Nolf to his back. His only "embarrassment" was losing a TD in the final 5 seconds on a counter because he got sloppy and desperate. Otherwise it was 5-3. Smith is much better than an average D1 wrestler!

Even if not the correct call, thats how I like to see it called. A bottom guy is supposed to do anything he can to stand up and get an escape.. oh except when the top guy puts legs in, then it's stalling if you stand up.

IMO if you put the legs in, and the bottom guy stands up, then you have to return him to the mat. But I was never a leg rider, and the stalemates and stalling stuff on the bottom guy always irked me.

I think you are referring to the scuffle finals matchup last year. Nolf Teched Smith in the dual today, Joe didn't have anything in the tank, and hasn't looked himself at all this season.

It is like you were watching a totally different match. ;)

Probably would've been if match took place at Penn State.
How about the love that the referees at the Iowa match and the OSU match gave to Bo Nickal? Those 30 second pins were real fast pins that should never have been awarded!

That would explain it. No explanation for why I didn't notice Smith wasn't wearing the same color singlet as other OSU wrestlers or that they weren't wrestling in the same arena. Hey, I focus on the wrestling.

BTW, I blame Flo.

Fwiw, I made the same mistake Tarp. Was getting ready to defend Smith.

Since FLO wasn't working on time, I started watching the archived matches one at a time on FLO this evening. They mixed in a few older matches along with today's. I think I saw HS Gulibon vs Heil at 126# listed. Lol!

It's pretty clear PSU is the 800# gorilla in the room. I don't see any way, barring injuries, that PSU doesn't win another championship in March. Handily beat Okla St 27-13 in Stillwater, despite giving up a med fft from Suriano getting injured. Would've likely been 30-7 otherwise, against #2 Okla St.

Amazing how Cael develops all these guys who are already better than anyone else as they finish HS.

Let's hope Tom keeps getting some top recruits for Iowa and things turn around 2 years from now.

Finally, now we can all get on the same page for team rankings. How they could look at these lineups and still have the Boys #1 till the last dual, huh?

Because you get 4 points after a 4 count.

I was talking about Joseph hanging on to the leg after what I thought was an awarded takedown.

After a takedown is awarded, are you allowed to hold on to the leg if you are facing the opponent (not behind them)? I'm fairly confident a TD was rewarded at that time, even though WDM disagrees.

Rewatched, there was definitely a 2 called so i don't understand why a count wasn't started in the first period.
