Punter offer?

May get a preferred walk-on but really hope Ryan Gersonde gets stronger. I was not unhappy with him. Colton---- take a seat. Bad and inconsistent. Coluzzi spoiled us.

Darn, we need a punter. Was jealous watching the game last night. Loved the rugby style punt in Lincoln that hit our guy in the butt and was downed 20 yd punt. My kids are even laughing at how ridiculous it is...,,

How about an open tryout for any students. Someone on campus can surely kick better than what we saw this year.

Oklahoma State has done it, Florida found a kicker like that a couple of years ago, and I think Ohio State got someone from their soccer team, iirc. Seems absurd but there has to be someone better

My guess is that Iowa will likely try to scour the ranks of punters who are somewhat "proven." Thus, ideally I would think that they'd be in the market for a graduate transfer punter. As always, they'll likely try to get candidates they like as preferred walk-ons too.

As I mentioned in other thread - they cannot really afford to offer a 'ship to a punter if he's going to be a "miss."

Maybe a junior college punter could find his way to Iowa City. Or maybe a junior HIGH punter... Either would likely be an improvement. What a HUGE recruiting failure by KF, especially given his "style" of football. A punter is one of the two or three most important players on the team, and Iowa settles for whoever.
Well played.

I would like to see them talk Joe Wieskamp's older brother Matt into walking on. He avg.'d 39 yds. a punt in HS (with good hang time) and ran fakes about 20 times. He went to Western Illinois as a punter. At least with him punting or holding XP's there is a legitimate threat for a fake as he was a pretty good dual threat QB in HS. I think he's playing WR now, but I bet if he focused entirely on punting, he would be better than what we have now. He's got the work ethic like his little brother.
I also think that next year that anytime we are past our own 45 and thinking about punting, we just use our regular offense with Stanley in the shotgun and just let him punt it if we are going to. The other team will have to stay in punt safe because the will never know if we are going for it or not. Just have to make sure we have 2 WRs on the field that can punt cover.

Though your point is valid, your implication and tone is typical. They had what they had...it's always interesting to me to read how you guys phrase things. Those dumb ole' coaches....why didn't they use "the good guy" obviously they just didn't want to.......indeed!

We need to just make Nate Stanley a two-way player, punter and QB. I'm only half kidding. His leg is almost as strong as his arm.

I love the idea of Stanley as punter. Could even start a new trend Nationwide.
There has to be a metric that states if you can convert 1 fake punt per game then that translates to more points/wins than a 40 yard punt average

Also, I think he could actually average 40 yards per punt. I'm sure there's some reason not to do this - increased exposure to injury? But, it's damn tempting.

As bad as the punting was. There is no way in hell you put the franchise QB in to punt other than a quick kick situation.

Being off balance on one leg after kicking is not a place for your QB. It's just to dangerous.

Call me nuts, but based on the long term analysis of @rivercityjazzman , I think you'll see both of our punters have good seasons next year.

Just a hunch. Also curious if Maguel might not move there too. I recall his dad saying he was good but unorthodox.

Our punting needs to improve, without a doubt. I’ve previously posted my thoughts in detail, so you’re welcome to check ‘em out.

I’m sure this will be addressed between players and staff after the bowl game.

Our punting situation played a major role in multiple losses this year. It certainly can't be ignored.

An "average" punter might have gotten the Hawks 1 or 2 W's this year. Imagine this team at 9-3? I would never suggest that really good punters are easy to find, but how hard can it be to find an average one?

Not alot of details. I just opened a Twitter account yesterday as a way of getting more hawk info, but I refuse to follow and "kids" so I'm not sure if there is more info available. So far just following the coaches and Blair and a couple other guys has been AWESOME for info FWIW. As long as Blair doesn't have a problem with it I have no problem relaying what I see.
