125 - A
133 - C- Terrible Purdue kid. Clark has limited neutral offense,
141 - A- Great first CHA match.
149 - B- again, terrible Purdue kid, struggled again on offense
157 - A Hard to argue with the fall, it was a fall if you watch. But, wouldn't been upset had it not been called.
165 - C like the start, shows promise
174 - D terrible Purdue kid.
184 - B+
197 - A
HWT - A

125-Gilman the Destroyer...A
133-Clark-B+. Would like to see him get to the legs more
141-Carton Grotius-B. Very solid... I don't know if he initiated his own shot. Sabatello is no turd but Brody controlled the match throughout
149-BS-C+-Brandon can do better, doesn't seem to be in his normal rhythem
157-Coop-B-Was on his way to a TD but got the defensive fall that wasn't really a fall
165-Paddock-D-One can see the potential in his ability to score but very green, and made some complete rookie moves
174-D-Should have majored this guy...let's guys in on his legs WAY too easily
184-A-Sammy doing work
197-A-Nate is getting close to being our third or fourth best offensive guy. Last year, he probably would have gotten by with a comfortable decision. TF in the last few seconds
HWY-A-Stollhouse earning his cookies. Going to be a force for years to come.

Ref sucked, not enough stall calls. Very worried about Meyer...no sense of urgency

I agree ... somewhat worried about Meyer. No hope at 165. So some hope with Brody at 149 and Cooper at 157. Go Hawks!!!

Paddock shows promise. Just makes a lot of silly mistakes, but he has great size for the class.

Brands sure was happy with his team's performance. I dare say he was even giddy.

All looked super impressive minus Meyer and Sorenson.
What a sigh of relief to see Grothus show up to wrestle and put on a very solid performance against a darn good wrestler in Sabatello.
Legit win. Faith restored. Onward and upwards!

and a very fitting walk out song. Well played BG.

Saw highlights. Grothus physically does not look healthy IMO. I have never seen the kid in my life and the few shots of him looked Unnaturally thin. Anorexic like.

Hope he is going to be ok from this long term.

This is the one thing I hate about wrestling and the one reason I am glad I never had to go through this as a parent.

Concur across the board. The ref absolutely sucked...very few stall calls and one of the worst fall calls ever in the Cooper match. And my opinion of Meyer is solidified after his match...no sense of urgency and he looks slow as molasses. Maybe he was ill tonight (trying to give him the benefit)...

I watched the entire match, and Grothus looked pretty good for this soon in his comeback. Sabatello isn't a pushover, and Grothus stayed in control throughout. Grothus didn't look great (actually kind of looked undersized)), but I thought he looked pretty darn good with where he's at in his comeback.

Good point regarding Burak. This year he looks healthy, has an engine that just won't quit, and is constantly pursuing takedowns. I'm looking forward to his match Sunday against Studebaker and then Friday against Pfarr...should give us a good idea as to what we can expect in NCAAs...

I thought that we looked tired all dual. Even guys who dominated were sucking wind.
Not sure which meet you were watching. I just watched the entire event on BTN2GO, where the footage is phenomenal, and I sure didn't see where we looked "tired all dual." In fact I would say 8 out of 10 of our wrestlers looked like they had great engines throughout their matches. Are you sure you weren't watching a heavyweight boxing event and not Iowa wrestling??

Agree I thought Grothus looked good size wise. I didn't realize Sabatello was that big of a 141 lber. For losing to two Wisconsin back ups a couple weeks a go to beating a top 25 kid is a good turn around. I'm sure things are going to get better every single match.

I also thought Brody looked really thin in the upper body for a D1 wrestler. Good win, though against a tough kid

I thought Brody looked good. His third period was pure horsepower IMO which I think is good sign. If he can get it going, we should have a realistic shot at national championship. In fact I could see 7 guys to semis. I think the other top 3 contenders have several guys that are considered finalists or champions, but we will this thing as a team

Overall everyone looked pretty good and did their jobs. My only concerns other then 57 & 65 is Clark! That knee pad looked like a massive pillow strapped to his knee. Obviously it's still sore and limiting his offense. He's taking less shots and focused on dominating on top.

You must have been watching the MSU versus Indiana dual.

Maybe I'm being too critical, but I thought that some of our guys looked pretty sluggish. Expecially, Grothus, Sorensen, and Meyer. Brody can be given a bit of a pass, but he showed little offense and benefited from some very quick stalemate calls. Sorensen and Meyer struggled with offense against guys who they should have dominated. Brooks even looked pretty worn out by the end of his match, however his opponent was even more so. Gilman, Burak, and Stoll were solid. Coop got pretty lucky with the pin, however he looked like he was going to finish that shot. Paddock has some potential but is raw.

A good improvement for Brody and something to build off, he knows there is a lot of work to do still an Topher is gonna lay it on the line too.

I don't know what is wrong with Meyer, he seems to be missing energy and explosion. I think the cut may be an issue to some extent.

From what I've seen Rhoads seems the clear choice at 165.

I am so impressed with Gilman and Burak this year. Yes, both have been really good historically but they look like pit bulls and their opponent is a juicy 24 oz T-bone steak they are going to tear into.

Given so many here are very much more connected than myself with the program, does anyone know if Meyer cuts a lot of weight? I've only watched three of his matches via TV this year and he looked really sluggish and it seems that has been a consistent theme. Not always, but often times guys can leave their legs exposed when they're tired.

Anyone have any insight or thoughts?

Grading the match, I have to give the blonde reporter in the red dress on the edge of the match an "A"

I gave her face a ten and her asinine. Yes asinine is a word but I use it differently than the true definition.

Clark beats a guy 12-0 that Conaway and DiJulius beat 8-3 and people here are giving him bad grades and whining. You can't make this stuff up.

Last year Gilman only beat this guy 8-4.

I guess I'll have to agree with Akaoni and say that our guys looked a little sluggish. It doesn't bother me because it's a long season with several peaks and valleys. I do like the way our guys are getting after it and going for bonus whenever possible

I'd agree that some of our guys maybe looked a little sluggish the last couple times out, but what you have to keep in mind is we have no clue where the guys are in their training cycle, so naturally there's a chance they might not have the energy that they will in a couple of weeks. I coach throwers in track, and what I do is build guys over several weeks slowly increasing their throwing loads until we get to our "heavy load week". Then we cycle back down to an easy week, then start over. The last "easy load week" coincides with districts and state. Likely at this point (I'm assuming here) we're in a heavy training period, looking to start cycling down during February. I don't know how accurate this all is, but it is my line of thinking at this point.

Part of the problem is he wrestles right after Gilman.

You see Gilman wipe the mat with his opponent and set the standard for Domination.......

And then you see Clark who lets everybody and their dog hump his legs the 1st period before he wakes up and gets the job done.

Gilman looks like he can get a TD anytime he wants and in many different ways. Clark has the 2 on 1 and.....that's it.

And that maybe is a bit of a letdown for folks who expect Clark to look improved from last season.

We see the improvement Gilman, Burak, Stoll, Brooks, & Brandon all have made with our own eyes. And then we don't see what looks like the same kind of improvement from Clark or Meyer.

Granted that maybe Clark's opponents are a bit tougher than what Gilman faces, but Clark just seems to struggle more this year.

CP84 that's great analysis! Didn't know anything about those past matches; so YES I was one that was critical but hope Clark is 100% moving forward.
