Either Iowa a whole lot better than many would have thought, or Purdue much less awesome than people thought, or both.
Purdue is really good. We played an amazing second half and our bench was awesome. Lots of positives tonight.

Purdue is the real deal and Iowa is a Top 25 team. If they stay healthy and continue to gel, they can be a 5-6 seed nobody is excited to play. And it’s fun to watch them play inspired defense. Quick on the perimeter and long (not tall or big) inside. I love the look of this team.
Woah. Iowa looked good. That was probably the worst Purdue has looked this year. Iowa did a great job making Purdue uncomfortable. I don't want to play Iowa again
I didn't think Purdue was as good as what I had heard (1st time I saw them). I think they will have 4 or more losses this year in the B1G.

I am also not into moral victories but I thought we would lose by 20+. Ivey is a good finisher and pretty much ended it when he put us down 19.
I was INCREDIBLY happy with how we defended tonight. That never happens. I really thought that was the most effort any Fran team has shown. Still need to battle on the boards and make shots.
I think Keegan would have helped tonight but I don't know if it would have been enough to win.
I think that’s a bit of an overreaction IMO. We were up big and then things got sloppy. We weren’t going to play amazing every night.
Meh. This wasn’t a typical “we’re up big let’s relax” game (hawks have had plenty of those in Mackey). It was a dogfight for most of the night. Sure Purdue hit their high point for a brief second, but to say things got sloppy because of a lead is disingenuous.
For what it’s worth, I still think Purdue wins in Carver by 10 because our fans won’t have enough ice cream in them, but give the hawks credit tonight.

Ya. I've never seen Iowa play defense like that. Even if you aren't into moral victories, Iowa has to feel good about that game. They looked like a top 15 team to me.
Purdue and Ivey looked like a number one team/player that got a little comfortable with their lead against a team they underestimated, but still pulled it out like the great teams do. That’s the best Fran Iowa defense I’ve seen since his 3rd year, if not ever. Really thrilled with our defense and our grit. Looking forward to the Ivey/Keegan matchup. Could be the two best players in the Big.
Not at all saying you don’t have a really good team but you came in to a conference opener, knowing if you won you’d be ranked #1, playing a team you have a huge size advantage on, playing without their best player, got an asinine amount of help from the refs, and really could’ve lost it at the end. I was expecting an easy 20+ point loss but I was way more impressed with the Hawks fight than I was Purdue’s talent. I totally realize that sounds like a slam on Purdue but it’s really not intended to be. You have a very good team and I realize we’ve all played less than 10 games, but that’s not the best team in the country IMHO.
Iowa had a really bad night from 3. Play good teams and you don’t look as good it’s a double edged sword. Purdue is legit. This Iowa team was very impressive. The previous core would get taken to the woodshed every time we played Purdue.
On that note, Iowa should shoot much better from the 3 in Iowa City AND they will be playing with Keegan. With Iowa's 3 forward lineup and halfway decent outside shooting, it should force PU's bigs out away from the basket and hopefully allow Iowa to get some offensive boards. That killed Iowa in West Lafayette.
