I'm certainly no coach, but I don't really get this approach from Coach Painter.

During the final 19 minutes of play, at no point was Nova ever within 20 points.

I'm not talking about "taking the foot off the gas pedal", if you will...that's another debate. I'm referring to simply giving guys rest....perhaps reward some of your gritty walk-ons with a little bit of love?

Struck me as odd, but again...I'm no coach

Villanova was pressing the entire second half. I don't know if you guys remember beating us in West Lafayette a few years ago after we led by 20 in the second half because we couldn't handle your press. You get burnt like that once and you remember it always. Painter wasn't and shouldn't be taking any chances. I can tell you as a fan it wasn't until there was less than 5 minutes left that I felt reasonably certain it was over. This is an NCAA tournament game. You have to err on the side of giving your opponent too much respect.

Good luck against Tennessee tomorrow.

This was Villanova in the NCAA tournament, not a December game against Towson after they just flew 1500 miles and stayed at Motel 6 trying to make ends meet. His team was playing with a great rhythm and he didn't want to disrupt it. I'm sure Jay Wright didn't mind it, he'll want his young team to go into the off-season remembering how badly they got beat down. I can see wanting to avoid injury but basketball is a bit different than football with the cumulative effect of the hits.

Yeah, in the Tourney this is totally a coach’s call. Teams have to earn the right to be there, so you either wave your white flag first, and as the team getting throttled you put in your walk-ons, or you risk being humiliated. I have no problem at all with Painters approach, but the risk of injury would be enough to make me squeamish when you are up by more than 20 with under 5 to play.

Our “most hated rivals” look like they are an Elite Eight contender for sure. Good luck, guys.

Jay Wright was being his typical dbag self and had his starters in and pressing plus pressuring on the ball. He continued this until the final 50 seconds. Wright may be a winner but he’s not a class act. Purdue did what it needed to.

This! One philosophy is that you pull your starters when the losing coach pulls his. It's the throwing in the towel metaphor.

Wright is as classy a coach as you can find. Clean recruiter. Gracious in victory and humble in defeat. Who would not want him representing their school?

I don't mind that kind of d-bag, especially if they have a national title under their belt.

No Way you play until the end. This is lose and go home time. I have no problem with him playing his starters until Vnova Pulled theirs. I would worry a little about injury but they have played a Whole big ten season and made it through. I think they were ok. Survive and advance.
