Offense: Petras has the arm strength but accuracy was bad today and he rushed things pre snap. Hoping it's first game jitters. Didn't make it easy on him. All you need to do today was get easy throws to your playmakers. ISM and Tracy needed many more touches. Inexcusable Brian Ferentz. No rhythm outside of Q2. Too many penalties. Definitely should have scored more points against this Purdue defense.
Defense: Not a ton of playmakers. Nixon played great, lights out! Nobody else played great. No pass rush. Back 7 is in bad shape. Many missed tackles. When you play soft coverage like Iowa plays, you better be able to tackle. SOFT, no cohesion. Guessing it gets better but I don't see playmakers and great Iowa defenses have playmakers.
Special Teams: Aussie a great punter. Great leg. Duncan needs to get more height....unless it was the camera angle.
Conclusion: Great to see Iowa football. Unfortunately most of us knew what was coming once Iowa fumbled and let Purdue hang around. Ugly game and it's a short season. The controversy over the summer couldn't have helped this team. Lack of depth at a program like Iowa is going to be tough in 2020 with covid and more injuries. None the less, thankful to be able to watch Iowa football today
