Florida State transfer QB Cubba Purdy (Iowa State's QB brother) and Texas QB Casey Thompson appear to be in the tranfer portal coming to NU. Coach Whipple, OC and QB coach has a past relationaship with both. Thompson, the Texas transfer signed paperwork today.

UT fans were not disappointed when Thompson entered the portal. Never considered an elite talent and had a very mediocre career as the Longhorn signal caller. Will be interesting to see if the Smothers kid who started against us will stay or transfer.

just like that almost overnight sf has picked up so many explosive athletes and matched them up with massive coaching upgrades. this goes to show that nebraska is a sleeping giant with a head start for next year’s west title and perhaps more. definitely glad we managed to get to indy this year coz withouta doubt sf has wis and ia in his crosshairs and finger on the trigger.

CSB. Never heard of the guys. Wonder when they release the national championship contenders for the off season? Neb has to be close to winning that again.
Probably being sarcastic, but both were 4-stars and widely known.
Curious how Neb has at least 90 players on scholarship so far. Are they excluded from the 85 rule since they can’t count?
You do not have to be at 85 until the start of fall ball. We still have 3-5 new guys coming in late signing period. I am a Husker and there are 5-10 strong candidates to be processed after spring ball. Already have processed a few. Mostly guys who never will see the field for whatever reason. A couple of fifth-year juniors from COVID are just moving on to jobs.

Purdy is destined to be the most clutch player ever in the state of Nebraska

He was viewed as better than his brother out of high school and played a bit at FSU before his injury. He quit the team before they could waste a season of eligibility this year as he knew he was leaving. Smart move. He will compete for the backup job with the two freshmen (Smothers who played vs Iowa) this season and all will have a shot for 23.

The Fuskers have been getting these kinda of skill guys for a while and haven't done shit.Until they get elite trench guys I'm not concerned.
New O line coach will help. All five jobs are open and some starters will move around. Played guys out of position last season. Austin also coached a zone-read scheme like the NFL rather a traditional "just hit them" approach most teams use like Iowa. It was dumb as they were mostly freshmen and sophomores. Former players publicly commented that zone-reads are real hard for a kid out of high school to do. Lots of thinking in the moment which NFL guys can do. Simplifying will go a long ways to improvement.

If we don't use the same tools to fill holes it'll be very revelant. These players in particular though, no.
Trey Palmer started in the slot for LSU this season and was their kick returner. We lost our slot to graduation and our special teams all sucked as everyone knows. Special teams have been the difference in several games including against Iowa the last couple of years. New kicker and punter brought in also with existing guys graduating or losing scholarships since they sucked so bad.

It’s too bad you didn’t have anyone to coach those special teams guys so they didn’t suck so bad…

That may get you the coveted 4th win.
It will help get us so we stop losing every close game. Getting rid of Martinez also will help. Every loss was 9 or less. Difference in Iowa game was the blocked punt. We also played a much tougher schedule with OU, OSU, Mich and MSU. Had MSU beat (special teams...), tied with Michigan with ball late (fumble) and OSU with chance to go ahead late (INT). Iowa typically gets an easy schedule from the conference. Best win was Penn State who would have won if the starting QB did not get hurt. Beat ISU with no offense. Just need to quit screwing up 2-3 times a game and will win.

Frost was real dumb on that. Everyone knew it except him for 2-3 years. Fixing it now. Bill Busch will be named ST coach shortly. Was there years ago and most recently at LSU as ST coach. Lives in Lincoln already as wife from there. Great recruiter also. Also expecting TCU RB coach to be named to that role shortly. Hoping he brings their RB commit.

Two portal guys going to Nebraska? That seems odd.
We also got a 4-star CB from Arizona State, an OK State tackle, and a kicker and a punter from FCS schools that would have been top quartile FBS special team guys. 5-star WR from LSU likely to be official shortly. Still in play for a couple of more guys. Frost needs upgrades and isn't messing around with his job on the line. He will also be more of a CEO coach with the new OC calling plays. Key reason Frost has struggled late in games...too much to do and think about.

Sure he will. It's not like Frost has a habit of throwing others under the bus for his mistakes or anything...

You guys are back to winning the off season it sounds like.

I would not disagree on throwing others under the bus (some probably did deserve it though). He does struggle taking blame, but Trev Alberts is not going to take that and is actually providing some AD leadership. Bill Moos was absent mostly and Frost was not held accountable. Alberts is a master at saying the right thing and will watch Frost close. Alberts has already stepped in front of Frost at press conferences to avoid Frost saying something wrong. Frost knows it and I think he realizes he needs to be held more accountable. He does need to change. Husker Nation sees it too.

Well it is a start. Needs to translate for sure. We have been good at that as well as the master of close stupid losses. We would watch games just waiting for a screwup by someone to cost us the game. When Iowa blocked the punt, I said to myself "Here we go again..."

This schedule narrative is getting old. Iowa played Indiana, ISU and PSU in the first half of their schedule this year. Indiana and PSU were both expected to be better than Michigan or MSU coming into the season and ISU as good as Oklahoma.

Iowa beat all three teams and those teams ended up not meeting preseason expectations, while Michigan and MSU exceeded preseason expectations. I would have preferred for Indiana, PSU and ISU to have had better seasons, but it is not Iowa’s fault that they did not and the conference did not just give Iowa an easier schedule, unless you think the schedule makers knew Indiana and PSU would under perform. Iowa beating them early in the season may have had something to do with this under performance as well.
