Why do so many of you put obnoxious trinkets on the dash up against the windshield? Beanie babies, rubber ducks, Legos, stuffed animals…I’ve seen this in other cars in the back window, but it seems disproportionate in Jeeps.

Please advise.

I think it's almost exclusively a Jeep Wranger thing. From AI....

Jeep ducking is the act of placing a rubber duck on another Jeep, usually as a friendly gesture. It's a fun tradition that's popular among Jeep enthusiasts.

How it started

  • The tradition began in 2020 when Allison Parliament, a Canadian woman, put a rubber duck on a Jeep in a parking lot.
  • She left a note that said "nice Jeep" as a way to spread cheer during the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • The owner of the Jeep saw her and suggested she post about it on social media, which went viral.
How to participate

    • You can duck a Jeep at car shows, in parking lots, or anywhere else you see a Jeep.
    • You can include a note with the duck, such as "Nice Rig" or "Love the Jeep".
Why people do it
    • Jeep ducking is a way to show kindness and spread joy to other Jeep drivers.
  • It's a way to celebrate the camaraderie and spirit of adventure among Jeep enthusiasts.

I refuse! Dumbest crap I've ever seen. It started in Canada, so that probably explains most of it.

Only Trump EO I've supported so far!

My older brother, who once upon a time was the coolest guy I ever knew - 70's era badass, long hair, heavy metal dude - has a 2023 Jeep now with ducks on the dash.

I shake my head every time I see him driving it. He is aware of my disappointment.
You should chastise him greatly!

This is my group of Jeep buds. You won't find a single Duck among us. So frack'n stupid!!!!

I can go pretty much anywhere a jeep can go with my Lexus GX, only with much more comfort, reliability, and convenience!

I love overlanding in my Lexus and watching all the Jeep people stare
That's true to a point, but you won't go far rock crawling in extreme places in Texas, Moab, etc. Heck, there's a place called Wolf Caves in Texas I will never return to. If I didn't have $1K in skid plates I'd have been toast. You need a min of 37" tires (40s would be better) to navigate those boulders.

Overlanding, though? You're gtg as are the 4-runners, FJs, Broncos, etc. Our trip last year was a combo of Silverton, CO area and Moab.

My dad had a couple of (Willys) Jeeps for delivery vehicles for his business when I was growing up…….he quit buying them as they were getting too expensive and they were being sold to AMC……..Jeep always had questionable transmissions fraught with problems after AMC got ahold of them…..I had a couple of co-workers that drove Wagoneers and they were nice looking, well equipped vehicles….but had shitty transmissions!

Different strokes for different folks. Looks cool for a day, not a past time activity. But I aint gonna knock it, many folks don't understand AutoX or RallyX or track days.

Yup...not for everyone (and not cheap). Some folks hunt, others golf, fish, smoke beef, etc. This is pretty much my favorite pastime.

Big time; especially if it has the 3.6L Pentastar. Now the 258 and 242 inline 6? Those were great engines. Heck, my AMC 304 v8 was a beast too. Chrysler can keep that 3.6L and the 3.8L (which is actually worse).

3.6L V6 but maybe pre-Pentastar. It was an 06.

Def not cheap. My cousin runs a shop in Ft Worth and has been racing for decades apparently. Legit off roaders are pretty bad ass rigs. I also don't get fishing as a full time "its what I always do" passion.

Different strokes for different folks said the farmer as he kissed his cow.
