Raina replacement

If you click on my link to the women's coaching staff it is absent one Tania Davis but already added the new hire. Ergo -> Tania Davis is gone, baby, gone.
Ya i went looked she's definitely not on their. I wonder if they would look at adding byus former coach.

I remember jan talking about recruiting her kid and maybe talking about her as a coach.

Her kid played good against us and was a highly touted recruit.

Idk just throwing it out their.

Tania was player development coach which is normally entry level on a staff with no off site recruiting. Raina was paid 180,000 last year Stamp 170,000, Henderson 165,000, & Sullivan 135,000 while Tania's salary was 85,000. Davis could have already decided to move on before the new hire was made or maybe it was a reaction to not getting an official "assistant" position.

After games the team would gather in a circle both on the court and sometimes in the locker room. We could observe that Coach Tania would get in the middle of the team and dance/bounce around and the team would push her to the middle of the circle. This was celebratory. However, I always wondered how much the team members respected her. It was obvious they liked her.
Mature coaches are never seen in that type of regular activity. It is the wrong message.

I think it is good that she has moved on and can reset her career.

As a player i would of loved it.

But I'm sure we'll get some good to replace her. Wish her the best and hope Raina takes her buddy in

Poor take. There is no one size fits all for commanding respect. Plenty of successful coaches take a "one of the guys approach." Pete Carroll, Joe Maddon, Dan Campbell, and Steve Kerr come immediately to mind.

Swing and a miss.

Tania was a great, tough player who would delight and surprise with key 3s just when needed them —and undersized at that. Her play, toughness and talent earned her respect. Not everyone can coach; Tania is clearly committed to it. Wish her the best, tho will miss her energy!
I suspect it was bad timing, Jan needs a big time recruiter, Tania was ready ready to move up, but maybe not yet ready for that specific role. I suspect Raina can bring her in as an assistent coach. Frees up room for Syd as a player development coach.

I really apologize profusely because I can’t say much but let’s put it this way - Raina and Tania are burning bridges. Petty middle school behavior. I will be surprised if Tania isn’t joining Raina. Take it for what it’s worth.
What’d they do get Harpring to commit to FGCU?

I genuinely hope it's the "no we aren't interviewing we promise", using iowa's $$ to begin recruiting for their next gig before they told anyone, or something along those lines of middle school and not something more impactful recruiting-wise.

I’m not too concerned Iowa is going to lose recruits to FGCU. My guess is Jan knew Raina was interviewing and likely gone. I’m guessing Jan had a short list of potential assistants. I don’t think she could do any better than Barrett. Tania wants to be a full assistant and that was not happening at Iowa next season, so she is moving on.

I’ve seen nothing posted by either one in Instagram that could be considered “burning bridges.”

Yeah, the fact that Raina came back for Iowa WBB end of year banquet indicates she's still a Hawk.

LaSondra Barrett was on the Hawkeye Report podcast for ~30 mins this morning if the date is right.

"We start your week with a special edition of the Hawkeye Report Podcast. Tom Kakert and Kyle Huesmann are joined by the new women's basketball assistant coach Lasondra Barrett.

The podcast opens with getting to know more about the coach and the hiring process with Jan Jensen. How did they connect and what was the process like to land a job in Iowa City? What are her initial thoughts on the job and what were her perceptions of the program given the success that it has enjoyed in the four or five years?

We get Barrett's thoughts on the two portal additions for the Iowa women's team in Chit Chat Wright, who she coached at Georgia Tech and Emely Rodriguez, who she knew about as a recruit coming out of high school.

Also, we discuss her coaching influences and the input and thoughts she has given to head coach Jan Jensen and how she thinks they will play this season. What has it been like for Barrett to be on the road recruiting with the Iowa logo on her shirt and what's the reaction that she gets from prospects and coaches so far?

Finally, we discuss her mentors in coaching and how she didn't think she would get into coaching, but why she had loved being a coach at the college level. "

A couple of things caught my interest, She mentioned she was introduced to contacts in Minnesota, Wisconsin and the Chicago area and AIA so sounds like she will be taking over Raina’s Midwest territory which seems logical, Also mentioned that she has opened some new contacts for Jan in the south, I don’t think she is necessarily talking about recruits but rather putting Jan in the loop on different programs etc, I know she mentioned Texas specifically.

I believe Raina did a great job while here but I think Coach Barrett is going to do well in opening some new doors for the WBB program. While we have already seen her impact with a new offer in the 26 class I will be interested to watch offers in the 27 class.

Related to what you said, I thought the most interesting thing Coach Barrett said was that Jan wants to take more of a national profile in recruiting. Having the new coach recruit in the South in addition to Jan would certainly be logical. No question Jan is trying her best to capitalize on the momentum of the last five years and the Caitlin Clark effect.

Dude have you been to Lawrence Kansas? Its a shit hole compared to Iowa City. There's nothing wrong with University or with Carver for that matter........
Iowa City (University of Iowa) is a beautiful campus. A real plus (A+) for recruiting. In fact the state of Iowa is beautiful. An Iowa farmer all my life and fields of green, from sea-to-sea, border-to-border is a thing of beauty in spring and summer. Go Hawks!

Sorry to be a downer but UI isn't really known for being a beautiful campus and Iowa isn't known for being a beautiful state lol. I for one LOVE UI/Iowa City because it feels like a funky little college town and I love how the downtown is incorporated with campus.

But I think most people I knew in HS who wanted a "beautiful" campus ended up at Iowa State. Those kinds of kids kind of think of IC as rather soulless. They want the sprawling green lawns. I also think some people aren't really fans of CHA being so far from downtown as well (never bothered me tho).

Hard disagree on that.
Even so, what recruits like about Iowa City is that it's most assuredly NOT what you would find in Ames, and not exactly how most see Iowa--and with a good portion of the student body from Chicago and St. Louis areas.

Not necessarily directed at you Hawk-guy, but that general sentiment you mentioned about Iowa City's campus. What Iowa City lacks in asian birch trees, gothic chapels, symbolic water flute fountains, or eucalyptus groves, it makes up for in spades with personality and character.

Regardless of character, Iowa City is a great campus with a pretty unique set-up between grad, undergrad, the river, and what was the first university-owned teaching hospital in the country, as well as the largest teaching hospital in the country (for awhile).

Don't forget that was the nation's first co-sex medical program, with the first permanent college-level department of education back on the other side of the river, oldest law school west of the Mississipi (admittedly after it transfered from DSM after 2 years) the oldest dental school west of the 'sippi (and one of the oldest nationally), first 5v5 college bball west of the 'sippi, first (daily) campus newspaper west of the 'sippi, and the oldest neurology department west of the 'sippi -> again all only a good baseball toss from (now) 5+ undergrad dorms. I'll stop there. Not even close to all-inclusive of historical achievements.

(Some may roll their eyes at the "west of the Mississippi" firsts, but I'm not talking early 1800s here. Those are all right around 1900. Hardly ancient history or an entirely underdeveloped West. Many places had hundreds of years' head start on little Iowa City.)

Some may prefer the eucalyptus, but anyone with an appreciation of history will find it in Iowa City.

Taking out the historical component, still, I would vastly prefer Iowa City over a campus with a layout like, say, Rutgers, with interstates partitioning large areas of my campus. This glosses over the considerable mingling of undergrads and graduates that isn't common and gives the Iowa City setting another interesting flair.

I used to live next to Cal-Berkeley and let me tell ya - not as impressive as I anticipated despite its location. Maybe my expectations were too high.

And this is good? Large areas of both cities are low income poverty stricken residential areas. Not my cup of tea. (of course I grew up on a farm 28 miles from the university)

Why I went to UofI, so yeah, it's very good. No offense to farmers or farmland, but not really what I was hoping for as an 18 year old. Iowa City is like an island with a shiny bright lighthouse.

Low income, poverty stricken? Ha. You really think that is who is going to Iowa?

You sound like my shut-in grandma. Did you even go to Iowa? In many classes, dorms, parties, Chicago kids vastly outnumber Iowa kids — and they are very proud of their hometown.….if you don’t think poverty exists in Iowa, think again. It has its share of bleak, dead towns crawling with methheads just like any other Midwestern state. I also grew up 25 miles away from IC. I’ve seen as much shit in Scott, Cedar, Linn and Johnson counties as I have visiting friends in Chicago.

Raised on farm close to Iowa City, and still operate Iowa family farms. Grauated from the University of Iowa. Lived in Houston for many years. Chicago has been my residence for many years.
Never cease to be inspired by the sea of green when I cross the Mississippi River into Iowa. Iowa City is a unique jem; educational, cultural, and economic affluence. For the detractors of Chicago, the city is much more than Englewood/Lawndale news headlines. Many unique opportunities that embellish the quality of life (although traffic can be brutal). Yet to speak with a young person (local) who visited Iowa City (University of Iowa) on a pre-enrollment vist who did not speak well of Iowa/Iowans. Naysayers are a wet blanket.
