Random Fundraising Thought...

Is it possible for the Hawkeye Wrestling Club to put on a dual meet against another club team or themselves or the collegiate team in the offseason, say at West High School....charge admission as a fundraiser for the HWC?.....
Better Yet...a dual meet between Iowa and Iowa State coaching staffs and the winning team gets to direct admission money to their charity/club of choice..

That's a great idea. I remember going to Cornell in 2009 for a freestyle event, USA vs a Russian team. The gym was packed and Lepic/HWC were awarding $2k to the winners.

Something along this line 1-3 times a year throughout the state would be well recieve. The attendance, donations and more importantly on going awareness to HWC during non Olympic years for casual Iowa fans

Great idea, indeed! Worth adding to the list. No doubt, the possibilities for fundraising for the HWC are virtually endless. Believe me -- every option is on the table. It's just a matter of prioritizing, as the coaches and wrestlers need time to focus on what they do best.

The real key is continuing to build the army of automatic monthly donors. And that army is growing fast! Probably the best thing any avid Iowa wrestling fan can do is to sign up for automatic monthly donations. . . and spread the word to friends and family who also want to help put the Hawks back on top. AND, if your employer matches donations, take advantage of that, as it can double your donating power, which is huge. Of course, the larger the donations, the better, but even smaller ones add up fast, so the message needs to be spread to just get involved. Another message worth spreading is that it's really a lot of f*** to be a part of the movement to take back the title for the Hawks. Plenty of room on the bandwagon!

Fundraising events are great in a variety of ways, but the goal, of course, is for those events to serve primarily as f*** gatherings of HWC coaches, wrestlers, and fans, just to celebrate Iowa wrestling. Gotta have that steady flow of automatic monthly donations clicking along in the background to really sustain the club at the desired level.

That word Penn State has cornered in the wrestling world. No other place has it.

As has been previously noted it only takes 5,000 $25 per month recurring donations to bring in $1,500,000 per year. It would be nice if Novak could pin a weekly running total of the number of recurring donations and the total amount it brings in annually much like the fundraising Pledge Goal and total donations. We could then track our efforts to achieve 5,000 ( or any number desired) and the $1,500,000 (insert any number desired).

Granted, I am stealing this idea from a news story I saw tonight...but would there be an interest in doing something with wrestling similar to what Mary Ferentz is doing with the women's day with the Iowa Football team?

From the story...it sounds like they have raised a wad of money for the Children's Hospital with this concept. Actually, the more I think about it...why let the ladies have all of the fun. Let's do a guys event with the UI wrestlers, etc. (I would be willing to wrestle Stoll...provided I don't have to cut down to the 285 pound limit that is. :)

But seriously, have an event where people get to train with the Hawks, unless that is a NCAA violation or something. Some on the mat training, maybe a few minutes of instruction/technique demonstration from the HWC members. Oh yeah, I would have to see what it is like in that sauna too and then a lunch or dinner to cap it off.

I don't consider myself a jock sniffer, but I could see that being a winning concept. Oh...get Randy Lewis and Royce Alger there for some stories!! You might really raise some funds then!

I'm telling ya. I'd lock horns with a 97'lber. I'd get smoked and thrown 3-4 times and lose my breakfast, lunch, and dinner from the past week but it would be worth the laughs all the friends and family would get. You know people would come to see their old A$$ friends wrestle a college stud and get whooped up on. This would most definitely bring new eyes to the program and a tad more excitement from those new eyes when they found out why people are doing this. Fundraising would be that answer.

That seems like a very attainable goal. I think many of us have done $50 a month, so that would count for two people. Lets get the ball rolling on this one. $25 a month is nothing! Skip one combo meal or fancy coffee per week and there is your $25 per month!!

Mr. Army, Sir, I like the way you think!
