- Surprisingly, Indiana has more rushing attempts per game than Iowa (44 - 43.3). They average 170 ypg on the ground. Iowa's defense holds teams to 70 fewer rushing yards than their season averages.
- Indiana generally gains +55 more pass yards than their opponent's defenses are allowing on average. However, Indiana has only out-passed one opponent this year (Rutgers a game they lost). Indiana's pass defense allows opponents pass offenses 80 more passing yards than season averages.
- Indiana is dead last in defense for the 4th quarter allowing 14 points. Same as in 2014. (Iowa 17th, averaging 4 points).
- Indiana averages 80 plays a game, Iowa 72, Iowa State 82

There are so many horrible defensive stats that you could cite for Indiana you wonder how the DC keeps his job after this season.

The Hoosier offense runs 80+ plays per game because they are back on the field after a short rest trying desperately to score points just to stay in the game.

You are a football savant. I mean that.

Much is made about the dangers of Nate Sudfeld and while he has had a very strong season, his numbers are about what you'd expect between facing good defenses and weaker defenses.

Against Ohio State he was 10-21 for under 200 yds passing. Against Michigan State's jumbled mess of a defense (which hasn't recovered completely yet from Narduzzi departing), Sudfeld looked like Peyton Manning.

Iowa's defense tends to lean a bit more similarly towards Ohio State, even though we have a tendency to be air-headed and give up 3rd and longs and other broken coverage plays that result in big gains or scores......on occasion.

Sudfeld also is not much of a runner, so if our secondary can force him to hold onto the ball long enough, hopefully we can get some hits and sacks on him and force a few bad throws or a fumble or two.

The only issue with that, as alluded to above, is that Indiana still likes to establish the run game in space and they'll hit those short, quick passes as well to try and neutralize any pass rush. That's why it's gonna be key for our guys to be good tacklers out in space and hopefully have a night and day effort in comparison to last year's game against the Hoosiers, where right after we'd make a big play, they'd respond because we lost our gap responsibilities and contain.
