Assuming no crazy shenanigans occur, the 2022 NCAA Tournament will be the 14th time that both Iowa and Iowa State made the tournament in the same year. Here's a look back at the previous results:

1986- Iowa (20-12, 11 seed, 1st Rd) / ISU (22-11, 7 seed, Sweet 16)

1988- Iowa (24-10, 5 seed, Sweet 16) / ISU (20-12, 12 seed, 1st Rd)

1989- Iowa (23-10, 4 seed, 2nd Rd) / ISU (17-12, 10 seed, 1st Rd)

1992- Iowa (19-11, 9 seed, 2nd Rd) / ISU (21-13, 10 seed, 2nd Rd)

1993- Iowa (23-9, 4 seed, 2nd Rd) / ISU (20-11, 8 seed, 1st Rd)

1996- Iowa (24-8, 6 seed, 2nd Rd) / ISU (24-9, 5 seed, 2nd Rd)

1997- Iowa (22-10, 8 seed, 2nd Rd) / ISU (22-9, 6 seed, Sweet 16)

2001- Iowa (23-12, 7 seed, 2nd Rd) / ISU (25-6, 2 seed, 1st Rd)

2005- Iowa (21-12, 10 seed, 1st Rd) / ISU (19-12, 9 seed, 2nd Rd)

2014- Iowa (20-13, 11 seed, First Four) / ISU (28-8, 3 seed, Sweet 16)

2015- Iowa (22-12, 7 seed, 2nd Rd) / ISU (25-9, 3 seed, 1st Rd)

2016- Iowa (22-11, 7 seed, 2nd Rd) / ISU (23-12, 4 seed, Sweet 16)

2019- Iowa (23-12, 10 seed, 2nd Rd) / ISU (23-12, 6 seed, 1st Rd)

2022- Iowa (22-9) / ISU (20-11)

- Iowa only has one Sweet 16 trip in those 12 seasons that both made the tournament (1988), while ISU has four :(

- Iowa has had a better overall record in 5 of the 13 seasons, though assuming things hold here they will have the better record going into this year's tourney as well.

- Both teams have won at least one game in the NCAA Tournament only 5 times (1992, 1996, 1997, 2016, 2019)

- 2016 and 1997 were the best combined runs with Iowa making the 2nd Rd and ISU making the Sweet 16 both years.

- Every year Iowa had the higher seed, they advanced as far or farther than ISU (4 times), so this bodes well for 2022! In years where ISU had the higher seed, Iowa advanced as far or farther 4 times.

- Both Iowa and ISU average as a 7 seed in those seasons. Coincidentally, ISU projects roughly anywhere from a 7 seed to a 9 seed, while Iowa is currently a 6, but could drop if they lose their first BTT game.

- Unfortunately, Iowa State has also had a better seed in each tournament since 1993, however should things hold that streak is likely to end this year.

- Lastly, knock on wood. There's never been a season where both made the tournament and lost in the First Round.

ISU lost in the first round in 2019.
Even if ISU had won in 2019, they would not have a 5 straight seasons of winning at least one game. ISU lost in first round also in 2015.

If someone cares or has time compare their results in conference tournaments. Iowa has been terrible at it. Iowa State wildly over achieves. Should be some fun numbers.
