For those old enough, I thought it would be interesting to rank the overall strength of the football programs in the Big Ten 30 years ago vs. today.
Don't just look at the one "magical" 1985 season for Iowa, for example, but basically how the overall programs were in that timeframe (around 1985) vs. today. Personally, I didn't look at records alone, but I guess you could if you want.
Here is my take:
1985
1. Michigan
2. OSU
3. Iowa (close b/w Iowa and OSU for No. 2)
4. Illinois
5. MSU (close b/w Illinois and MSU for No. 4)
6. Purdue
7. Wisconsin
8. Indiana
9. Minnnesota
10. NW
2015
1. OSU
2. MSU
3. Wisconsin
4. Nebraska
5. Penn State
6. Michigan
7. Iowa
8. Minnesota (it was tough to put Iowa above Minny, but I still think it's there)
9. Maryland
10. NW
11. Rutgers
12. Illinois
13. Purdue
14. Indiana
