HBOT is awash in posts about illegal immigrants, abortion, trans in sports, climate change, last year’s inflation rate, Israel and Ukraine. I’m curious which of these matters the most to you and why? What one issue rises above the other and does that inform your vote?

For me it is the deficit. It is the single biggest risk I see to America’s future. Unfortunately both parties ignore it so I have to vote based on other factors, which is a shame.

Any adminstration that is complicit in flooding the country with new people so that they can lock down power for generations to come is truly a threat to America. That is why immigration is the top issue.

From encouraging a surge to the border to halting some enforcement measures/deporations, it's clear what their intent is.

Between census numbers counting illegal aliens which will increase U.S. representatives to birthright citizenship to calls for amnesty and a pathway to citizenship, the Democrats know exactly what they're doing.

They don't care about America. They only care about power.

And it's quite rich seeing all the board libs choose "the democratic process itself" when their party members want to end the electoral college, gut the filibuster and pack the Supreme Court.

I'm sure it just a slight mishap by the OP but he left off attacking the online porn industry.

Why do "people" like you always assume immigrants will vote Democrat?

Doesn’t really matter if you don’t trust them to do what they say and get it paid for.

If they b.s. and sidestep around the little stuff why would you expect anything different on the big stuff.

National debt is the biggest threat and it isn’t even close.

And yet when the GOP had the House,Senate and the Presidency they decided tax cuts for the rich was a much more important priority. So get out of here with your disingenuous B.S.

And Biden had since 2020 to lockdown border but waited until 2023-2024.

Go Team!!!!

If somebody can’t say the obvious like “men shouldn’t compete against women in sports” because of political fallout from their wacky wing of their party why trust them on anything?

Nobody cares about climate change. I base that on how people live, not what they say.

So when MAGA killed the border bill to run on it and champion it as a campaign issue....

IMO. Biden was too lenient on the border.

I don’t think men should compete in Women’s sports.

We should all care about climate change.

Again if the border was such a priority for the GOP why wasn’t it done in 2016? Seems the border is only a priority when it can be used as an election issue.

They didn't have 60 in the Senate so please be honest about those two years.

“Care”? who is supporting nuclear power? Who is cutting back on travel, big homes, SUvs, and all gas burning pleasure craft ?

“Caring” is the beginning and end of it.

China has more coal power plants that the rest of the world combined.

Are we going to tell the developing world they can’t have electricity as they become modern?

The bulk of all plastic in the ocean comes from the pacific rim.

Google says it takes 36,000 gallons of jet fuel to fly from New York to London. So 72,000 round trip. But “we” care.

Yep, that is a big one for me as well. And since no one seems to care about the deficit it has a sizable impact on my vote for sure.
It would be nice if the Democrats were actually allowed to attempt the "pay-for" policy they advocate for but the Republicans block it in the Senate...because they don't really care about the deficit. They never have, but it sure sounds good to their voters.

In terms of headspace, the Ukrainian conflict has been top of my list since the start. It is an existential threat to the entire world. As such, eliminating MAGA and all of its malign progeny is my next highest concern.

I find the results interesting. Most posters I identify as liberal chose the democratic process. That message clearly resonates with the party base. Most posters I identify as conservative chose immigration - that message clearly resonates with the party base. A hodge podge of us chose deficit (I might be the only Harris voter in that crowd). With a smattering of other topics thrown in.

I know the Dems could have done more on the border, but I doubt that would sway anyone. I honestly wonder what would have happened if Harris had really doubled down on economic and deficit policy. I strongly believe Harris will be better for our economy than Trump (tariffs suck), but could she have invested in ideas to reduce the deficit including reduction in spending? That might have garnered Harris a few more points among the never Trumper/independent/former GOP types. I doubt that would have cost her votes from the base considering they view this as a referendum on democracy.

And if they had compromised the Democrats wouldn’t have gotten “exactly what they want”, Hence the word compromise.

But compromise isn't what you were initially speaking of. You were implying that republicans could have done whatever they wanted because they controlled all three bodies. That simply wasn't the case because they lacked the 60 votes to break the filibuster.

This is what you said:

"And yet when the GOP had the House,Senate and the Presidency they decided tax cuts for the rich was a much more important priority. So get out of here with your disingenuous B.S."

Northern correct me if I am remembering incorrectly, I believe the GOP had a border bill they were going to put forward in 2016 and they pulled the bill, And IMO there is no doubt in my mind that their priority in 2016 was getting tax cuts.

Agreed, very interesting and agree with these folks that Harris is best for the economy between the two candidates

I'm a registered independent who will easily be voting for Harris and I rank the biggest concerns as follows:
1) debt/deficit
2) Judiciary/Supreme Court
3) immigration
4) abortion/women's rights
5) climate change
6) democratic process

I'm surprised both the judiciary and debt/deficit have been so underplayed in this election cycle.

1.) Democratic Process - Removing Gerrymandering, repealing voter suppression laws, and getting big money out of politics should be a top priority for any reasonable person.

2.) Education - Ensuring that schools are funded, teachers are well paid, college is affordable and that there is plan in place to alleviate student loan debt.

3.) Abortion Rights - The Government should have no say in restricting contraception or abortions.

4.) Climate Change - Important bit I'm skeptical if there are any changes we can realistically make.
