I just did a quick recap of all the Presidents of the United States.
We have never had a POTUS who has never worked for the Federal Government or a State Government in some capacity.
The closest thing we've had to political outsiders in the White House is we've had a couple of high ranking military officers and a couple of ambassadors. (both worked for the federal government) Beyond that you have 2 former house reps. and the rest are almost entirely VPOTUS, Governor, Senator, Cabinet official before becoming POTUS.
