I am confident that I have made many mistakes and this then becomes a starting point for someone else (WrestleStat?) to take over and do a better job*.

And FYI, andegre, when you do take it over I have a suggestion: the best way to rank the wrestlers is to add up the points they earned at Nationals so that you can rank them by points, rather than finish.

*This "do a job poorly and have my wife take over" is my strategy for dishes, vacuuming, folding laundry, etc.

Good job. Ty Walz was #111 - now ranked #3 at hwt and Eric Montoya was #197, also ranked #3. Lot's of bargains to be had in that class and we did well.

It's amazing what a flop that top ten was.

Thanks for the suggestions. Walz slides in at 8th and Montoya at 14th

Can someone text andegre and get him working on this?

Not sure what it all means. Maybe nothing other than, no one knows for sure how guys preform at D1 level. Might also mean some guys were in the wrong fit. I think if I were a lower weight stud recruit I would want to go to Iowa to develop. PSU appears to do a great job in the middle weights. Hate to say it.

Plus there are different reasons why some don't perform as well at the next level. Would take a lot research and hypothesis to dig into deeper levels. Coaching changes, injury, taking one for the team, too many studs in too few weight classes, etc. The final result may provide coaches another recruiting tool, but we all know there are no guarantees.

Thought I heard the 125 pounder from Cornell that won it 2 years ago and was a multiple time finalist (garret?) wasn't in the top 100.

One thing I notice is that while many top 20 slid backwards, Iowa wrestlers tended to move up for that year. Both Gilman and Clark move into top ten. This does suggest strong development by Brands.

it would be interesting to see this over several years. I second Vallholl's motion to have Andegre do this and expand it to 5 years. ;) I think Earl's site has a recruiting "rewind" that has some similar info.

I've sometimes wondered about kids who come from lesser known high schools, without the powerhouse reputations and superb coaching. I think Garrett may have fit this description (from Chico, CA?) A diamond in the rough.

And would suggest that /reinforce the point that "iron sharpens iron" with Clark and Gilman both rising. I know I got the idea from somebody and yes, over time, it would be interesting. Also, big fan of people who agree with me.

Great development with that class by the Iowa coaching staff. Top level D1 coaches know a lot more about wrestling then almost all ranking services put together.

What is interesting is that I consider Gilman to be the more accomplished wrestler at this point, but Clark has the better overall results. I guess time will tell. Beyond college, I expect Gilman to shine at 57kg.
