Really Impressed by Colbert

No doubt. Looked very intense and fired up, too.

I thought this was as focused and animated as the Hawks have been for ISU in a while. Last year they seemed extra fired up, too. Not sure what has changed, if anything, about our approach to the ISU game, but we seem more dialed in and motivated for it these days. and it’s great to see.

He is an impressive looking athlete. His coverage was great. I can definitely see Welch moving back inside next year to get him on the field.

Funny thing is so many of us myself were nervous breaking in new LBs. Niemann looks great. Welch played well too and his backup Colbert comes in looks great yesterday. First game Hockaday steps in as the backup and finishes the day with a strong showing in his 7qtrs of action. Not only am I very impressed with them so far shows we got good depth at the position too.

Brian Ferentz cares a lot about beating ISU. So did Fry. Important to beat your in state rivals if you want to recruit and Hayden made that a top priority. I’d be OK with another 15 win streak.

I really think AJ needs to be on the field a lot more. Heese is good but AJ is REALLY GOOD

Hesse was destroying Foster with bull rush yesterday. He was pushing him into the QB and collapsing the pocket consistently. Hesse is still better at setting the edge. AJ played well and is handful for any OT but he did get sucked inside and beaten on one of the few positive running plays for ISU. I like a fresh AJ out there late in games. I just remember those games back with Claiborne and he was so gassed late in games that he wasn’t much of a factor.
