#8 Duke beat Oregon State today 54-51. Duke had 22 offensive rebounds; they rebounded 50% of their misses (22 of their 44 missed shots).

And yes, Duke shot miserably today.

11-31 (35%) from 2 point range
5-29 (17%) from 3 point range
16-60 (27%) Overall shooting

Check out the offensive rebounding disparity below.

Hit the glass and drain those free throws! Be a big help in having a successful season.

My HS basketball coach said that winning the rebound battle is the most common denominator with winning the game.

Of course, we were shooting a peach baskets then .....

Fran's a smart guy. He knows you need to possess the ball to score the ball. That's why he hates turnovers so much. You would think we would also DESPISE giving up offensive rebounds, too, because when we give up the offensive rebound, we don't possess the ball and we can't go the other way with it.

Once again we lead the nation in assists to turnovers:

Rebounding is important but too many variables to say it's the most important. Guards and defense win in in March which is why I remain skeptical Fran can get a team to the Sweet 16. While the guard play is the best it's been in Fran's time at Iowa, we saw what Chase Hunter did last night and Iowa does not have that guy on the roster. He got to the basket at will, found his teammates for open looks by breaking down the D and Iowa didn't have anyone who could stay in front of him. Richmond showed how vulnerable Iowa is when they don't make 3's.

Connor can also rebound, and can now shoot the three.
Connor has had very short lived hot shooting streaks in the past, I'll believe he can shoot the 3 when he's done it fairly consistently over some time. I was very happy to see him get 6 boards in 17 mins last night, one of my biggest gripes with him in the past is lack of rebounding and he's been noticeably better with that this year so far

All this might be true, but I actually think just having not enough good shooters is their biggest problem. If Murray isn’t on fire, or doubled up, it’s pretty stark out there. Guys that may get hot one game in five.

ogundele
3m 2 Assists 1 steel 2 rebounds 2-2 FT.

looks like Ogundele fits IOWAs profile.

how many air balls did we shoot last night?

here was one of them, by Perkins; thankfully we had another offensive rebound & put back.

The reason Iowa couldn't stay in front of him was the way they choose to defend screens. Hedging where they had previously been switching in the other games.

When Rebraca hedges he becomes part of the screen making it really difficult to get back in front of the ballhandler.

Every time Clemson got into the paint it was on a screen.

Any of Iowas starters could stay in front of that guy most of the time if they had simply choosen to switch on the screens and made him play iso.

And Tony Perkins just had a very similar game in terms of attacking the basket against a more athletic Seaton hall team so saying "iowa doesn't have that guy" seems like a poor evaluation of the evidence.

There are basically two major rebounders on this team. Murray and Rebraca. They need help.
Actually 3 if you count Ogundele, who grabbed 2 karooms in only 3:45 vs Clemson and about >20% of all missed shots when allowed to Play.

Poor rebounding was a huge part of tonight's 79-66 loss to TCU.

Iowa was -13 in overall rebounding and was -6 in 2nd chance points and -8 in points off turnovers.
