Record through 25 games in years we dance..

Bored.. nothing much here other than it’s an interesting nugget. Iowas record through 25 games in years we’ve danced (including Covid year) under Franimal..

2014- 19-6
2015- 15-10
2016- 20-5
2019- 20-5
2020- 17-8 (no tournament)
2021- 18-7
2022- Currently 17-7 TBD..
The final stretch on the schedule this year looks pretty favorable IMO..... a decent shot at going 4-2 and finishing 21-9. Upset a ranked opponent (MSU or OSU) and the resume looks even better.

He does have an incredible eye for talent. He is always in on great players before anyone else jumps on board. We don't always land them but he is right there.

And despite his critics, he is a great offensive minded coach. We always seem to be at or near the top of the B1G in offensive output no matter how many great players we lose from the previous year.
Great eye for talent and we score religiously.
Why doesn't he care about defense? No matter what he says our defensive stats show a lack of caring.

The worst part is Iowa has shown stretches where it is more than capable of playing defense, and sometimes a smothering version of it. But then they just... don't. It's bewildering.
No kidding. It's infuriating because they're pretty decent when they make the effort.
Patrick consistently gives up corner threes, and I'm sure he isn't the only one.....

Do those early glorified scrimmages come back to bite the Hawks? Sure they may be a 20 win team when it's all done, but how many of those games were against non-competitive teams?

At the end of the regular season, I wonder if we'll look at the postponed OSU game as the turning point.

How many people thought this team could make the dance. Look at what we lost now don't laugh I think Fran should be big ten coach of the year. Think who is not on the team

I get frustrated with the defensive sometimes......but I kind of wonder how hard it is to be really good at both? I mostly just want them to score more points than the other team. No one is all that upset about the defense when we give up 87, but score 110. Of course when the shots aren't falling, you have to be able to crank it up.

The thing that I really hate, and the reason I don't watch as much as I could......is rebounding. I just get more and more angry as I watch them give up offensive rebound after offensive rebound. Two or three times this year I have just turned it off and came back to check the final score later.

I have to imagine best case scenario it hurts our seed, but if we are on the bubble look out. Three opponents rank in the 300's and we have six others in the 200's (thanks Nebraska) without a signature win. Still several opportunities to create some distance from the last four in/out.

Agreed, but it has seemed to be better recently.
We'll get a true test in the next couple of weeks.....

Iowa needs 2 more wins and they have a 95% chance of dancing just looking at the short data we have on NET. It’s also very important we don’t get the doors blown off us at any point from here on out.

The things is that the final four contenders are good at both. That's why Purdue won't go far this year.

I certainly don't think that Fran doesn't care at all about defense. Or rebounding for that matter. But, what he cares about more is offense and scoring points. Fran stresses transition and getting out on the break. For this to happen, the guards need to release when the shot goes up, leaving less Iowa players under the basket to rebound. Naturally, when your guards don't rebound, a team will give up some offensive boards. Conversely, if our guards were rebounding, we wouldn't be able to get out on the break as much and get easy points. To dig further, you see Frans teams make a lot of runs when they play zone, because it keeps the guards at the top of the key and easier to get out in transition. That is why Frans teams don't seem to play defense.

I don’t think that’s true. Tom Davis knew how to run the fast break and always had a rebounding advantage. I think faster paced teams do better when they rebound well and set up the secondary break. I think where you see Frans teams suffer is he won’t crash guards to offensive rebound, so they can get back on defense.

True. But most of the final four contenders are getting a lot of the top talent.

it seems like at a school like Iowa, you have to find an edge to try and beat teams with greater talent……and it seems in Fran’s mind that edge is to fill it up as much as possible at a high rate of pace. I think that this approach comes with a cost defensively.

Crazy to think that 2 of those losses (I know PSU is tough at home) could easily be in the win column and we would be right up towards the top in terms of the loss column. Kind of a crazy year in the conference and it continued last night. A win tomorrow nite at home is pretty important...take care of the home court when you have it as the road will not be kind. Getting to 8-6 before OSU feels pretty important to me....not deathly if we lose but it puts much into question.

The team and coaches need to identify off shooting nights and go full force defensive energy wise.

The truth is that offense/shooting will experience off nights but defense and rebounding should be consistently there.
